Milan, 7-12 November 2017 – Vespa Total Look 2018 makes its début for the 75th edition of EICMA, international motorcycles exhibition (Fiera Rho in Milan). Rider's accessories, technical wear and lifestyle attire all united by a single creative vision, whose core features are freedom and spontaneity. A coordinated look, that centres on the practical needs of those who ride a Vespa. Attire and accessories designed for on-the-road adventures, but also perfectly suited to everyday use in the city; featuring accurately executed and innovative solutions designed for the road and all its challenges.
Available next year at the main Vespa stores and online at store.vespa.com, the new rider's accessories (gloves and helmet), technical wear (jacket with removable pads, under-seat rain parka, reflective and reversible sleeveless wind jacket) and Lifestyle attire (hooded sweatshirt, T-shirt and cap) express a new concept that balances style and practicality, and draws its strength from the unique personality of the Vespa and of its fans.
The triangle featured in the design of the 1959 Vespa brochures was used to symbolize the Collection; the MOD target used on the Nazioni Italia helmets (an icon in the Vespa style) and the ornaments from the front of the Vespa Primavera and Sprint form recurring motifs for the various practical components (reflective patches, helmet pin, zipper pulls, fasteners). The colour palette was derived from the new Vespa scooter range (Blu Midnight, Rosso Vignola, Rosso Dragon, Giallo Gelosia).
The Vespa Total Look 2018 is a homage to the Vespa heritage and at the same time underscores the innate adaptability of the world famous two-wheeler as it always remains in step with the times. The past and the future are mixed and matched just as one would expect from the Italian style that is Vespa.
STYLE AND FUNCTIONALITY.Careful selection of the best materials has allowed the creation of rider's accessories and technical wear that are perfectly suited for city travel - and for more generic scooter-type use – while always keeping a watchful eye on style. Some examples are the reflective background for the target patch; the pads, the waterproof treatment and the use of reflex for night-time visibility of the jacket; the “cocoon” element on the sleeve of the rain jacket; the reversible sleeveless jacket with reflective side; the use of particularly protective technical materials, like nylon, that are suitable for windy conditions; comfortable details like the sweat-stopping ribbons included in the T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts.
The meticulous attention to remaining versatile and crafting elements that are both practical and stylistic is seen in the numerous details typical of the brand: the woven edges of the sleeves and neck and the striped motif of the lifestyle attire; adjustable straps on the gloves and a tricolour silicon decal (echoed by the fastener for the rain jacket and the satin finish of the helmet) and the contrasting detail found in the varying widths used for the stripes on the index finger and for the stitching on the palm;
A smartphone-sized inside pocket on the jacket; the finish of the internal labels; the unmistakable design of the silicone zipper pull; tricolour sweatshirt string with rubber ends; target design for the button cover and the visor hinge on the helmet; raised weave for the target patch and Vespa silhouette partially superimposed on the triangular cloth patch found on lifestyle T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Several technical and stylistic details add finesse to this new collection, preserving both practicality and respect for the uniqueness of the Vespa image as it maintains the subtle balance between sobriety and distinction. A Casual, simple and elegant Style as well as unforgettable thanks to the contrasting colours, the streetwear mood of the graphics, the pairing of different materials, often with 3D or alternating schemes (like the shiny and opaque surfaces of the helmet) and the use of dynamic details (like zigzag stitching) to provide a youthful, contemporary feel.
CONTINUITY WITH VESPA SCOOTERS. The continuity with the Vespa range is immediately highlighted by the colour palette, which is sober but has personality and features vivacious exceptions that strengthen the bond with the Vespa identity. In planning the entire Total Look range, from the rider's accessories (helmet and gloves) to the technical wear (jacket with pads, reversible sleeveless wind jacket and rain jacket) to the lifestyle attire and accessories (cap, sweatshirt and T-shirts), the dominant colours are the classics: Midnight Blue, Bianco Innocenza (Sprint, Primavera and GTS Super), Nero Vulcano (Primavera and GTS) and Rosso Must (GTS Touring) accompanied by some bolder notes, particularly present in the details, Giallo Gelosia (Sprint S and GTS Super Sport), Rosso Passione (Sprint, Primavera and GTS Super) and Verde.
The strong continuity with the Vespa heritage and its ever-contemporary spirit can be found also in the graphic elements echoed throughout the Vespa Lifestyle 2018 Collection: the Vespa Primavera silhouette; graphics that look back to the decals and the front of the Vespa Sprint; The tricolour as a distinctive reference to the Italian origin of the brand; the triangular shape derived from graphics used for a 1959 brochure preserved in the archives; the target patch that was symbolic of the Mod movement, based on the symbol for the British Royal Air Force and in continuity with the Vespa Nazioni Helmet; the official Vespa logo with raised weave on a reflective background, consistent with the previous collection.
