I FIDANZATI DELLA MORTE (ENGAGED TO DEATH) – 1957 – TRAILER

The out-of-competition section of the Official Selection of the Motorcycle Film Festival – Nice, Côte d’Azur, France, 2 to 4 March – includes an Italian film from 1957 entitled “I fidanzati della morte” (Engaged to death). The movie, starring Rick Battaglia, Carlo Ninchi and Sylva Koscina, was directed by Romolo Marcellini.

The “fidanzati” (means: the engaged couple) of the title are the motorcycle racers of the time, to whom the film is dedicated. It features the top champions of the 1950s and 1960s, including Pierre Monneret and Geoff Duke on Gilera and Bill Lomas, Libero Liberati and Enrico Lorzetti on Moto Guzzi. Co-starring with these great names are legendary bikes like the Moto Guzzi 350 GP on which Lomas won the world championship title in 1955.

Thanks to a project organised by Rodaggio Film, the film was restored in 2017 through a crowdfunding campaign, and released in dvd and on streaming. Now it will be shown at the French festival, an event motorcycle devotees will not want to miss. One such enthusiast is Melissa Holbrook, a journalist who writes about the “motorcycle world”, and a passionate Moto Guzzi fan. Here she talks about the movie:
