Milan, 10 May 2017 – The Piaggio Wi-Bike is more than an electric pedal-assisted bicycle because it interprets the most advanced mobility requirements. Designed, developed and produced entirely by Piaggio, the Wi-Bike is an entertaining leisure tool and, equally, a state-of-the-art fitness tool, with advanced information-sharing capabilities.

From 12 to 14 May the entire Piaggio Wi-Bike range is centre stage at Bike Up - Electric Bicycle Power Festival in Lecco, a showcase event for sustainable pedal-powered mobility. The only European event dedicated to electric bicycles, Bike Up offers a packed program of excursions, E-MTB courses, conferences, workshops and test rides.

Visitors to the Piaggio stand will be able to register for a Wi-Bike test ride and a personal trainer will be on hand to illustrate all the ways the Wi-Bike can be used. The two-wheeler is an extraordinary piece of equipment: thanks to the possibility to modify the motor input, it can be used as a fitness machine on which to set a fixed physical effort (for example, 100W and a specific pedalling rate) leaving the motor free to increase or reduce the level of assistance depending on the settings and the fitness program. Sports cyclists can use it for training, keeping a high level of effort along the route; during urban commutes, the cyclist can decide not to exceed a maximum level of physical effort for health reasons or simply to avoid becoming too hot on their way to work.

The Wi-Bike provides a state of-the-art man-machine interface: thanks to the Wi-Bike App the link with the user’s smartphone ensures continuous data sharing with the net, offering the possibility to interact from any location and with any environment, total monitoring of cycling activity and the setting of personalised training programs.

ITALIAN STYLE. The sporty elegance of the Piaggio Wi-Bike is the creation of the Piaggio style centre. The result is an all-aluminium frame with an evident sporty look (including a shock-absorbing front fork, also in aluminium) available in a variety of versions, starting from a classic men’s and unisex model. The Piaggio Wi-Bike is available in four different set-ups: Comfort, Comfort Plus, Active and Active Plus. A configuration for every requirement, ranging from a traditional nine-gear mechanical shift to a latest-generation mechanical or electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

ELECTRIC HEART. The heart of the Piaggio Wi-Bike is an electric motor designed, developed and manufactured by the Piaggio Group. Although the motor can deliver a top power of 350W, it is limited to 250W (and a top speed of 25 km/h) so as to comply fully with the regulations on pedal-assisted bicycles. This means the Piaggio Wi-Bike does not require a licence plate or use of a helmet and can be ridden on cycle paths and in limited-traffic areas. The 400 Wh lithium ion battery is neatly housed behind the vertical tube and offers impressive autonomy, between 60 and 120 kilometres, depending on how the bicycle is used.

ADVANCED SECURITY. The technology implemented on the Piaggio Wi-Bike also offers high security levels: the instrument panel, battery and electric motor are linked by a unique code supplied when the customer purchases the bike. The three units can only function if they are connected and communicating with one another: for example, if the display (a true electronic key) is removed, when the cyclist stops, the Piaggio Wi-Bike cannot be used.
