In the last episode broadcast on 2 April 2017 of the exclusive talent show filmed in the historic Moto Guzzi Italian factory in Mandello del Lario, the finalist teams (from the 10 contestants at the beginning of the show on 27 February), competed with each other to customise a Guzzi V7 III Special, on the theme “motorbike of the future”, a challenge as tricky as it was fascinating.

The winner was Dynamica customised by Andrea Radikal Chopper, who commented: “I immediately had a clear picture of what I should do. I decided to use a lot of aluminium and create a monocoque structure, combining the front and the rear. The light casings, front and rear, are in tempered glass and suggest the future. The housing of the fuel pump was tricky because I’m used to creating very slim, narrow bikes, but I think I got it right straightaway.”

THE NUMBERS. Total hours of work: 33. People involved on the project: 2. Approximate budget: 3,000 euros.
THE DETAILS OF THE MOTORBIKE OF THE FUTURE
  1. Aluminium monocoque frame, from the fuel tank to the tail.
  2. Low handlebars, in café style.
  3. LED front and rear lights, in glass casings.
  4. Hyper-minimalist instrumentation, with button starter.
  5. Wooden footpegs, with metal inserts.
  6. Front suspension with vertical dampers.
  7. Leather cushion instead of a saddle, fixed to the tail with belts

“The forms I’ve given the bike create a special dynamic and that’s why I decided to call my creation Dynamica”, says Andrea from Radikal Chopper.

PHILOSOPHY. “I started working in this field purely by chance, helping a friend who sells motorcycles and was having a hard time. I like art in general and photography, I enjoy painting and writing. My hobbies are my sources of inspiration. After some negative experiences with a number of partners, I decided I needed a complete change. So I set up Andrea Radikal Chopper, which, for me, marked a complete break with my old work and the start of a completely new experience.”

THE GARAGE. “Use of metals like aluminium, brass and bronze has been the distinguishing feature of my work over the last few years. The amalgamation of these elements to form the various part of the bike is my personal style. I certainly feel more of an artist. The rest is the necessary consequence of my work. A motorcycle has to be rideable, first of all. Then it has to be coupled with a distinctive style. The anvil is the tool that represents me best. I love beating metal and giving a form to something that initially had no meaning. When I beat and work the metal, I can create something.”

English translation. Caption first video: the bike Dynamica. Introducing Dynamica, the futuristic Guzzi V7 III Special from Andrea Radikal Chopper. The Milanese customizer sees tomorrow’s motorcycle as a streamlined futuristic retro bike. The Radikal Chopper vision is embodied in a special two-wheeler that has little in the way of technological exploration and focuses all its attention on aesthetics. The frame is an impressive display of craftsmanship blurring the confines between the forms and the parts of the motorbike. Andrea Radikal Chopper hides some elements and revolutionises others: the lights become sheets of glass lit by invisible LEDs. The two-wheeler also has a number of the vintage touches this garage is so fond of. Dynamica appears not to have wheels: you expect it to levitate at any moment!

Today we’re in Milan to meet Andrea, who ten years ago transformed a passion into his life’s work: for him the custom bike is something universal, in which, nonetheless, the details make the difference, whether he’s building an extreme chopper, a scrambler or a café racer.
