“SAVE OUR OCEANS”

AT MISANO AND PHILLIP ISLAND APRILIA RACING TOOK PART IN THE INTERNATIONAL “SKY OCEAN RESCUE” CAMPAIGN

A sports event can turn into an invitation for people to reflect on the gradual invasion of our seas by plastic and microplastics and on ways to safeguard the ocean. This is why the Sky Group was at the San Marino and Rimini (in Italy, September) and Phillip Island (in Australia, October) 2017 MotoGP weekend, with the international “Sky Ocean Rescue – Save our oceans” campaign to raise public awareness and inspire responsible behaviour to benefit the entire marine ecosystem.

Launched at the beginning of the year, the “Sky Ocean Rescue – Save our oceans” campaign aims to create a culture of awareness about the sea, with documentaries and discussions on its channels and available on demand, and with a range of community projects and initiatives.

The campaign also came to Misano and to Phillip Island, for the 13th and 16th MotoGP weekend. Over the racing events, Sky organised a variety of activities in collaboration with KISS Misano. One of the main spectator stands was transformed into the “Sky Tribune – Save our oceans”.

Branded with the campaign logo and special containers to collect plastic, the grandstand enabled everyone to become an #OceanHero. The hashtag helped spread the message on the social networks too. During the Grand Prix race days, separate collection of plastic waste was promoted at the racetrack, with leaflets and information totems raising public awareness.

Aprilia was a testimonial for the initiative: during the races, the bikes and leathers of the two MotoGP riders, Aleix Espargaro’ and Sam Lowes, carried the “Sky Ocean Rescue” logo.
