THE ITALIAN DUO OF COLOMBI AND THE APRILIA RS 660 DOMINATE AT OULTON PARK
6 May 2024 - Edoardo Colombi made history in his first ever race in the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park (Cheshire countryside, UK). The reigning Aprilia RS 660 Trophy Champion made his debut in the British Superbike Championship and completed a hat-trick with a pole position and a double win in the Pirelli National Sportbike class.
Colombi won Race 1 starting from pole position, a challenging race with a safety car, some crashes and a red flag. Edoardo managed the situation well in a difficult condition on a new track and a new championship finishing first. The Italian also showed great maturity in Race 2, closely following one of the strongest rider in the championship, before overtaking him in the final laps.
Colombi, who has already proven his ability in the Aprilia RS 660 Trophy, has now also won the first round of the BSB with the Aprilia RS 660 of the Italian team Gradara Corse. This result shows how the Aprilia Trophies are an excellent way for young riders to grow and develop their abilities on track.
MASSIMO RIVOLA (Aprilia Racing CEO): "To see Edoardo on pole position and then winning his debut is a great satisfaction for Aprilia Racing and for the Trofeo 660 project. We are about to enter the fourth year of our Trophy, which is quickly showing how competitive the RS 660 is, how is formative for the young riders and how is capable of excellent cornering performance. Last year, Edoardo was fighting for the title until the very last race and his debut in the BSB is a good sign; I hope he continues on this path. The Pirelli National Sportbike category, although still new, is proving to be very interesting and selective compared to the previous Supersport 300. We must continue to work to see competitive grids in Italy and more frequent victories for Aprilia abroad, as has already happened in America.”
