THE GLOBAL BIKE

Aprilia introduces a new version of the already popular and super technological Caponord 1200 that breaks down the boundaries of paved roads to become even more transversal and suitable for any trip. Caponord Rally originates from the technical expertise of Aprilia, who reconfirmed its leadership in 2014 as a unique and victorious Italian brand, taking both world championship titles in the World Superbike, increasing the number of wreaths in the Manufacturer from Noale's collection to 54. A challenge that doubles in 2015 with Aprilia's commitment to both MotoGP and WSBK.

Aprilia Caponord Rally official video

New spoked rims with 19" on the front, new hard panniers, new engine guards, supplementary LED lights. The new Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is more eclectic, more protective, more comfortable, super equipped. The high performance of the twin-cylinder is a perfect match for the exceptional chassis features typical of all Aprilia bikes as well as the technological content such as ADD, the patented semi-active suspension system that automatically adapts calibration based on road surface and riding style. Interaction between the rider and his or her mount is further guaranteed by the A-MP system which interfaces with the smartphone world, an area where Aprilia and the Piaggio Group are on the absolute cutting edge.

After introducing the Caponord 1200, the perfect crossover for any type of road use, at the top of its category for technical content and chassis quality, Aprilia offers a version capable of pushing beyond the limits of paved roads, where travel turns into adventure. Introducing the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally, a splendid representative of the global bike, just as suited for daily commutes as for fun and long range touring, not only on asphalt.
Caponord Rally originates from the technical expertise of Aprilia, who reconfirmed its leadership in 2014 as a unique and victorious Italian brand, taking both world championship titles in the World Superbike championship, increasing the number of wreaths in the Manufacturer from Noale's collection to 54. A challenge that doubles in 2015 with Aprilia's commitment to both MotoGP and WSBK.
The names “Caponord” and “Rally” are evocative for Aprilia: the first was introduced in 2001 with the ETV 1000 Caponord, patriarch of an advanced interpretation of the street enduro concept, boasting distinctive elements such as the dual beam chassis in aluminium and the 998 cc 98 HP twin cylinder engine, both clearly sports derivations. Aprilia has historically associated the term “Rally” with the most adventurous and offroad models (including the 2002 ETV 1000 Caponord Rally Raid), bikes dedicated to travel in its purest and most savage connotation, ready to take on any type of terrain.
Then, like now, Aprilia's motorcycle technology was top shelf: the proverbial ability to build exceptional chassis is joined by exclusive expertise in electronics, thanks to the experience gained in top level racings, which has always been at the centre of research and development of Aprilia solutions which are then used in factory models. Ride-by-Wire, ABS, ATC, ACC and ADD are the active electronic control systems for safety and riding pleasure that Aprilia has fine tuned for the Caponord 1200 Rally, combined with a modern and technological V2 powerplant with top notch torque and power characteristics as well as a standard-setting chassis architecture.

EXCEPTIONAL STANDARD EQUIMENT
In introducing the new Caponord 1200 Rally, Aprilia's main focus was to offer an exceptional package of standard equipment. The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally standard equipment includes:
  • Electronic Ride-by-Wire accelerator with triple maps (Sport, Touring and Rain) that can be selected by the rider.
  • Two-channel ABS (can be disabled).
  • ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) adjustable to three levels (can be switched off).
  • ADD (Aprilia Dynamic Damping), a system capable of "reading" the road, recognising the rider's riding style and automatically adjusting the suspension set up.
  • ACC (Aprilia Cruise Control).
  • Pair of new panniers covered in aluminium.
  • Adjustable oversized windshield.
  • Hand guards.
  • Tubular side guards and engine guard.
  • Pair of supplementary LED lights.
  • Spoked wheels with 120/70R19 (front) and 170/60R17 (rear) tyres.

THE BIKE: ITALIAN DESIGN, SLEEK BODY

Aprilia Caponord Rally still life

Aprilia introduces the definitive bike, perfect for any occasion, the new point of reference for form and function, where the personality so typical of Italian design is combined with a sleek body. Like every Aprilia, its sportiness shines through clearly in the main stylistic traits, immediately noticeable in the triple headlight, by now the distinctive mark on all late model Aprilia bikes. The overall shapes were drafted during the numerous wind tunnel sessions which led to finding a perfect balance between a highly compact form, optimum aerodynamic penetration and excellent protection from the wind. Guaranteeing maximum comfort for rider and passenger are the new oversized windshield which can be easily adjusted in height, the hand guards and the particular profiles of the sides, designed for minimum protrusion but protective at the same time. The adventurous style of the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is completed by the new metallic tubular side guards and the brand new guard under the engine. The pair of supplementary LED lights is also new, contributing to an increase in riding safety, especially in low visibility conditions.
One of the most important aspects for a bike dedicated to accompanying riders on the longest and most demanding trips is the riding position. Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally provides riders of any height with an erect and relaxed position, the result of specific ergonomics studies in search of a dominant position that would not be tiring during long trips with perfect control over the bike and a sporty ride on road and in light offroad riding, even upright. The saddle has a particularly comfortable cushion and is just 840 mm off the ground, giving the rider total control over the vehicle when stopped. A lowered saddle is also available as an accessory to further reduce the distance from the ground. The passenger accommodations were also given particular attention: the portion of the saddle, large and flat, is separate from the rider's seat and shaped in such a way that prevents sliding forward, guaranteeing optimum comfort in any riding situation, while the ergonomic grab handles provide a firm and comfortable grip. “Rotational” technology allowed a thin walled nylon tank to be realised with great freedom of shape, favouring a reduction in weight. This way the lateral dimensions were reduced to a minimum and cater to the perfect leg position for the rider. The 24 litre capacity guarantees long range travel with a full tank.
The design of the Caponord 1200 is completed by its new side panniers, elegantly covered in aluminium and each with a 33 litre cargo capacity. Once mounted, the lateral dimensions are very contained; this result also contributes to the adoption of an exhaust system with a low mounted silencer. The panniers practically adhere to the profile of the tail fairing (total dimensions are only 920 mm) and do not create a nuisance for the passenger, making for an easy climb on board and a comfortable ride. If the panniers are not fitted, the silencer is height adjustable, giving the vehicle a more aggressive look and increasing ground clearance in turns.

CHASSIS ARCHITECTURE: EXCLUSIVE SEMI-ACTIVE SUSPENSION ADD
The layout of the frame is a mixed structure, made up of a trellis in high resistance steel tubes connected to a pair of die cast aluminium plates. This exclusive and well tested configuration allows a perfect balance of weights to be achieved, as well as optimum torsional and longitudinal rigidity values, characteristics that give the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally standard-setting qualities for handling and stability at high speed. The new steel rear subframe ensures extreme solidity for trips with a full load, while the lateral positioning of the shock absorber, which connects the frame to the aluminium swingarm, is useful for providing the right amount of space for the exhaust manifold, leaving the unit far from heat sources in a position which favours any adjustments that may be required. The new spoked wheels – with 19 inches on the front – shod with versatile tyres suited for any terrain that bring any destination within reach, no matter what type of road surface you need to tackle.
Making the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally even more versatile is the sophisticated ADD semi-active suspension system (covered by four patents), capable of detecting the rider's riding style, the amount of cargo loaded and the road surface conditions to adapt the set up automatically and in real time. This is an exclusive patented by Aprilia and based on its extensive experience in the field of electronic solutions that the brand from Noale has gained by winning top level competitions like the Superbike championship where Aprilia has been crowned world champion seven times in five years and the current title holder in both the manufacturer and rider championships.
On the front the Brembo braking system provides a pair of floating 320 mm steel discs and monoblock callipers with 4 pistons and radial connection. The rear mounts a single piston floating calliper that grips a 240 mm disc. An advanced two-channel ABS system which can be disengaged completes the standard equipment. The use of a 19” front wheel required a general revamping of the chassis with changes made to the offset and new suspension calibrations compared to the Aprilia Caponord 1200. This means that the new Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is extremely precise in turns, holding the line perfectly, and extremely stable at high speeds.

THE ENGINE: ADVANCEND V-TWIN CYLINDER
The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is powered by the latest evolution of the Aprilia V-twin already successfully installed in the Caponord 1200. The Italian V-twin cylinder boasts extremely advanced construction technology and a careful study of internal fluid dynamics aimed at improving combustion, decreasing friction and maximising performance. The 1200cc Caponord Rally engine benefits from a series of improvements and refinements in terms of settings, timing and electronic control. The natural developments of this twin which have taken place over time allow more progressive and responsive power output to be obtained even at low engine speeds (to the advantage of comfort) as well as enhancing riding pleasure thanks to high torque values, at the same time improving fuel economy.
The general specifications of the Caponord 1200 Rally engine are:
  • Twin cylinder 90° V;
  • Performance: max power 125 HP at 8,000 rpm; max torque 11.7 kgm aT 6,800 rpm;
  • Triple map Ride-by-Wire technology (Sport, Touring, Rain);
  • Highly oversquare bore/stroke ratio which is highlighted by the sport attitude and increases the amount of power generated from a low RPM;
  • Double overhead camshafts driven by a mixed chain/gear valve timing system and four valves per cylinder;
  • Twin spark ignition for fluid and full power output;
  • Speed density type electronic fuel injection with two throttle bodies and double multi-hole injectors for each throttle body;
  • Stick-coils integrated in spark plug boots;
  • Three-way catalytic converter with double oxygen sensor;
  • Hydraulically operated clutch;
  • New resonator at the exhaust to improve the torque curve, especially in the engine mid-range.
A child of the experience Aprilia has gained in racing, which has resulted in an amazing 54 world titles in just a few years, the ultra compact twin cylinder from Noale is a work of Italian art even from an aesthetics point of view. Credit for this goes to the great efforts of the engineers in imagining an ultra modern engine where the data transportation system travels through a CAN line which has the benefit of decreasing the amount of electrical cables needed. The 690W current generator is capable of powering the various electrical accessories in the rich options catalogue without any problems.

ELECTRONICS: SOPHISTICATED TECHNOLOGY RIDE-BY-WIRE
Aprilia was the first to believe in Ride-by-Wire, the electronic accelerator and the result of a sophisticated technology introduced for the first time in the sport motorcycle world in 2002 with RS Cube and on factory bikes as early as 2007 with the Shiver 750. The efficacy and reliability of this system have been taken to new heights on the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally. The RbW system dialogues perfectly with the engine ECU, managing the power in the best possible way at each point of the power output arc in order to have jerk-free manageability at low RPM, extreme responsiveness at medium RPM and exemplary spurts at high RPM. An efficient engine also provides the indisputable advantage of optimising fuel economy.
The triple mapping (Rain, Touring and Sport) that the rider can even select while riding, lets you have a bike with three distinct personalities, capable of instantly adapting to any possible condition and preference. All the rider needs to do is close the throttle and press a button to choose the desired setting.
SPORT: maximum performance with responsive and direct power output, to satisfy a sporty riding style.
TOURING: the maximum power expressed is the same as the Sport mapping, but output becomes more fluid and suitable for daily riding or touring.
RAIN: power is limited to 100 HP in order to guarantee maximum control and safety in conditions of poor grip. ABS and traction control (ATC) (which can both be disabled) are included as standard equipment on the Caponord 1200 Rally. The two channel ABS system is specifically calibrated for the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally version. The particularly fine calibration allows the rider to make the most of chassis potential in sport riding, without ever being invasive, even in the most intense braking operations, whilst still guaranteeing maximum safety on slippery surfaces. ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) is the exclusive patented traction control system derived from the Aprilia Performance Ride Control (aPRC) system on the extraordinary RSV4, designed and fine tuned by Aprilia to get maximum grip out of any type of surface, able to provide the rider with great riding confidence, simultaneously increasing safety. The 3 control settings, specifically calibrated for the demands of the Aprilia Caponord 1200, can be adjusted based on different riding styles and asphalt conditions:
Level 1: for a pure sport riding experience, intended for good fun.
Level 2: suitable for the city and touring and in general to manage the engine's performance on any route.
Level 3: ideal for safety taking on difficult situations such as low grip surfaces, staying in complete control.
ADD (Aprilia Dynamic Damping) is dynamic semi-active suspension system developed by Aprilia and protected by four patents, the reference point in motorcycling on a global level where technology, efficiency and reliability are concerned. Once again Aprilia has proven to be on the cutting edge of electronics applied to bikes thanks to a latest generation suspension system that manages to increase safety, comfort and riding pleasure. The ADD system measures the energy transmitted by bumps on the road surface to the bike and adjusts the hydraulic fork calibration and shock absorber in real time to minimise accelerations on the frame and consequently optimise comfort. To achieve maximum performance at any fork and shock absorber operating frequency, ADD uses a patented “comfort oriented” algorithm which combines the principles of the well known skyhook and acceleration driven damping algorithms.
In addition to comfort, rideability is also enhanced and safety is increased thanks to further software strategies which are tied directly to the rider's actions. In fact, the system recognises the riding phases (acceleration, throttle release, braking, constant gas) and adjusts the basic fork and shock absorber settings thanks to yet another patent which allows specific hydraulic calibration curves to be defined within the adjustment range.
The high precision of the system is entrusted to a selection of sensors which are derived from the automotive world and which, in addition to guaranteeing absolute reliability, allow the fork and shock absorber extension speed to be measured with maximum accuracy. In this field Aprilia has patented a unique solution for measuring the fork extension speed: using a pressure sensor. In the electromechanical calibration suspension systems already available on the market, the rider presses a button on the handlebar to activate an electric motor which changes the suspension set-up. In the Aprilia ADD dynamic semi-active suspension system, on the other hand, all the rider has to do is ride without any concerns of selecting one setting or another.
At the rear a built in piggy back shock absorber is used, electrically adjustable in spring preload to 4 predefined positions, indicated by specific icons on the digital instrument panel: rider only, rider with passenger, only rider with panniers and rider and passenger with panniers. Aprilia system patented exclusive and then the automatic preload control mode for the spring. Once this option is selected the system is able to detect the bike's load by itself (weight of the fuel, rider, passenger, luggage, etc.) and automatically adjust preload to the optimum value for correct balancing of the bike. The ability of ADD to perfectly copy even the smallest imperfection of the road surface, thereby guaranteeing the best possible tyre grip, also allows the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally to achieve exceptional braking distances, unheard of on the competition's bikes.
Aprilia Cruise Control allows the desired speed to be set and maintained even on uphills and downhills, without touching the throttle control. The system disengages automatically if the rider touches any of the brake/clutch Cruise Control commands and is very useful on long motorway routes because it helps save fuel and makes the ride less tiring.
The instrument panel that equips the Caponord 1200 Rally is fully digital: The full LCD combines the speedometer, rev counter, total and two trip odometers, fuel level and coolant temperature. There is also a selected mapping indicator (S,T,R) as well as the shock absorber electric spring preload indicator. The engaged gear is also indicated, as well as the ATC level adjustment and heated hand-grip operation (available as a separate option).
The range of indicator lights on the side includes the fuel reserve warning light and the ABS, ATC and ACC activation/deactivation indicators.

AVAILABLE COLOUR SCHEMES. The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is available in one of three completely new matt colour variations: giallo Dune, grigio Safari and verde Army.

Aprilia Multimedia Platform connects your smartphone to your vehicle
In 2012 the Piaggio Group was the first manufacturer in the world to create a system which allowed the vehicle to be connected to a smartphone (and consequently to the web), thereby transforming it into an additional tool capable of providing an exceptional amount of added information compared to what is already provided by the factory instrumentation. This innovative application, currently the only one of its kind in the motorcycle world, is also available for any late model Aprilia bike. The link between the vehicle and the Internet is called A-MP, Aprilia Multimedia Platform, making travel safer and more convenient. This is a window to the future which lays the foundation for a new way of looking at communication on two wheels.

Once the free app has been downloaded, the Bluetooth pairing of the smartphone to the vehicle allows the various options to be viewed and easily modified to the rider's preference: speedometer, rev counter, but also instantaneous engine power and torque, lean angle, longitudinal acceleration, instant and average fuel consumption, average speed and battery voltage are just some of the features that can be accessed. A-MP stores all the travel information and allows it to be studied in depth at a later time on your computer or, new for the MY15 release, directly on the smartphone’s display. It also contains the operating and service manual for your vehicle.

PIAGGIO GROUP MOTORCYCLE RANGE

2015: A YEAR PACKED WITH IMPORTANT NEW ITALIAN BIKES

Discovering the new developments in the Piaggio Group motorcycle offer for 2015 is a journey in biking pleasure from one extreme to the other. From the Aprilia Caponord Rally to the Moto Guzzi Audace, from the Eldorado to the extreme Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono, there is no road, track or circuit where Italian models do not rule supreme.

APRILIA CAPONORD 1200 RALLY: A VOCATION FOR ADVENTURE

The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally takes the idea of a tourer to a new level. Starting from the ultra-equipped Caponord 1200, Aprilia has developed a model ready to take on dirt roads too with its 19” rather than 17” front wheel and special equipment including rigid aluminium paniers and shields for the fairing and engine, as well as additional lights. The engine is the widely appreciated 1,197cc 90° V-twin with 125 hp and 11.7 kgm of torque. The bike retains its full electronic features: multimap ride-by-wire, traction control, on/off ABS and the ADD Aprilia Dynamic Damping semi-active suspension system, a key factor for both comfort and riding pleasure.

APRILIA RSV4: FURTHER ADVANCES FOR A WINNING MOTORCYCLE

We could limit ourselves to simply publishing the Aprilia RSV4 roll of honour. The V4 that triumphed at the World Superbike Championship begins the new season with a number of important advances to enhance an extraordinarily successful project. Described as the “most important evolution in the history of the RSV4”, the work on the new RR version has topped the 200 hp maximum power mark. Weight has been reduced and further advances have been made to the electronics, already a benchmark among superbike replicas. The Aprilia Performance Ride Control (aPRC) functionality includes aTC (Aprilia Traction Control), aWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control), aLC (Aprilia Launch Control) and aQS (Aprilia Quick Shift). There’s also a limited edition of 500 bikes – the RSV4 RF – in the Aprilia racing colours.

THUNDEROUS POWER: RR AND FACTORY

If you like a high handlebar, the new Aprilia Tuono 1100 is the bike for you. Developments on the engine have raised displacement to 1,077 cc thanks to 81 mm bore pistons, and deliver more torque at lower revs and greater top-end power, with stated 175 hp. The saddle has been lowered by 15 mm: together with the narrower handlebar, this improves protection against the air. Naturally, the RR and Factory are equipped with the aPRC electronic platform.

MOTO GUZZI ELDORADO AND AUDACE: MEMORABLE INTERPRETATIONS

The allure of the Moto Guzzi California, masterfully reinterpreted in the most recent version, underpins two original interpretations that take us into a new dimension, beginning with their names: Eldorado and Audace. The Eldorado looks West, to the American journey everyone longs to make, across plains and canyons towards the beaches of California, the outpost of the American dream. Spoke wheels, a fuel tank with chrome inserts, a saddle that is even wider and more comfortable as well as lower (724 mm), a rear mudguard with gem-shaped taillight, a bullhorn handlebar: the bike’s wealth of features includes new mudguards, whitewall tires and significant modifications to the setup, with a 16” rather than 18” front wheel. The V-twin engine is unchanged, with its powerful torque and practical cruise control.
A blacked-out look, a carbon fibre front mudguard mounted on a fork without any telescope covering, and a simple circular headlamp: the Moto Guzzi California Audace has no chrome plating. Essential, dark, with a specially designed lateral strip, short megaphone exhaust, saddle in Alcantara skai with exposed red stitching, sportier footpegs and a drag handlebar.
In addition to the Nero Ambassador and Bianco Eldorado versions, for 2015 the California Touring is available in a new version called “S.E.”: gets a graphic makeover with new deflectors and passenger backrest built into the grab handle.

MOTO GUZZI V7 II: NEW, CONTEMPORARY, INFINITE VERSIONS

Ewan McGregor and Moto Guzzi V7 II

After travelling with the Caponord 1200 Rally and setting a new track record with the Aprilia RSV4, you can cross the city with the new Moto Guzzi V7 II, a totally new “second generation”, complete with ABS, MGCT traction control – for the first time on a classic – and countless technical advances. The engine has been lowered 10 mm and tilted 4°. The gearbox has been updated. Three versions are available – Stone (essential), Special (original spirit) and Racer (limited edition) – together with a wide range of original accessories to enable every rider to personalise their V7 II and create an inimitable bike. Inspiration comes from four “reference worlds”, each represented by a specific kit of accessories: Dapper (café racer); Dark Rider (metropolitan); Scrambler (inner rebel); Legend (pure Moto Guzzi spirit).

It’s easy to relax here as you sip a cocktail at the bar, surrounded by style with a capital S.

STYLE DETAILS. The finishes and the discreet presence of the Motoplex logo (an elegant relief on the display totems) adopt the colours and materials of the Motoplex format, as do the dynamic display solutions, which simultaneously ensure a coherent overall brand experience, while guaranteeing practical flexibility. For example, the modern equipped walls are light, modular structures designed as multifunctional elements for use in any occasion, such as launch events for new products, clothing collections, accessories and merchandise; or workshops and themed evenings. Podiums and merchandise display cases are integrated with the counter of the impressive bar, transformed from a simple functional element into a display stand for vehicles and accessories. The result is a seamless pleasurable blend of consumer and brand experience.

APPEALING BRAND ISLANDS. The colour codes are harmoniously juxtaposed to suggest a route around the brand islands, where accessories, design objects and clothing create an elegant setting for the motorbikes and scooters, the core of the display and the beating heart of the concept store.
The hallmarks of the Motoplex identity – a predominantly black and white colour scheme and materials such as high-quality glass and dark leather (for the furnishings and for the finishes of the display cases and systems) – are flanked by the warm welcoming colours of the luxury wenge wood chosen to characterise the Moto Guzzi spirit. Meanwhile, the carbon look of steel evokes the technology behind the Aprilia brand, and the bright pastel colours of the modern plastic materials on the Vespa island convey the intrinsic vitality and creativity of this world-famous symbol of Italian design.
The representation of the value worlds of the Moto Guzzi, Vespa, Aprilia and Piaggio brands starts with the most iconic models: the Moto Guzzi California and V7 II, the Vespa 946 and Primavera, the Piaggio Mp3, as well as Sylvain Guintoli’s Aprilia RSV4 number 50 bike, which swept the board at the WSBK 2014 championship, capturing both the Rider and the Manufacturer titles.

EVOCATIVE STAGING. The setting created for the products has a high emotional impact, achieved with layouts using memorabilia, period photos and objects that evoke brand identity. Examples include the commemorative magnum bottle of Berlucchi spumante and the exclusive #bearacer T-shirt celebrating Aprilia’s recent WSBK victory; or the collector volumes also dedicated to Moto Guzzi and Vespa. These books are presented together with other quality items in the display cases built into the bar counter, or set out on the wooden shelves along the walls for easy browsing, perhaps while enjoying an Illy coffee served in a designer cup with the unmistakeable Vespa look, or a spiced tea in a Moto Guzzi mug, sitting comfortably at the bar on the modern metal and leather stools with handsewn Motoplex tags, or relaxing in the lounge areas.

A DESIGNER LIFESTYLE: WHAT PASSION!

The brand offer is completed with style items, previewed lifestyle articles and the unique series of gadgets with the distinctive design of the Piaggio Group brands, whose style enhances the distinctive soul of each brand: echoes of the iconography of the 1960s for Vespa; a custom look for Moto Guzzi; aesthetic details conveying a sense of energy and sport for Aprilia.

In short, this is an experience container that puts visitors immediately at their ease as it ushers them gently into the Motoplex universe. Italian brands that are milestones in the history of motorcycling welcome visitors in an environment steeped in the refined stylistic and technological content successfully incorporated by legendary names – Moto Guzzi, Vespa, Aprilia, Piaggio – into motorcycles that have acquired mythical status and scooters that have transformed the concepts of mobility and freedom for ever.

Motor Bike Expo, the leading European exhibition of custom and special motorcycles, welcomed more than 150,000 visitors during the three-day show at the Verona Fiere exhibition centre (23-25 January 2015). Record crowds flocked to the Moto Guzzi stand, where the knowledgeable public of devotees admired the new models introduced by the celebrated Italian brand for 2015, as well as the selection of astonishing special bikes created on Moto Guzzi bases by leading preparers like Officine RossoPuro, Millepercento and South Garage. Capturing attention in addition to the new Stone, Special and Racer versions of the Moto Guzzi V7 II (the second generation of the best-loved Guzzi) was an extensive range of accessories designed to give each bike a personal touch.

As a tribute to the custom philosophy of the Verona show, the Mandello company presented its own proposals for extreme personalisation of its twin-cylinder models. The base is the newly launched V7 II range, with the three versions Stone, Special and Racer. The bike is completely new at technical level with its new six-gear shift, at ergonomic level with the new position of the engine and footpegs, and at safety level with ABS and traction control.
Another attraction was the Moto Guzzi shop, where visitors were able to buy lifestyle articles from the large catalogue of items available for followers of the eagle brand.

GARAGEMOTOGUZZI.COM: 4 KITS FOR THE V7

Moto Guzzi’s official custom debut is illustrated on the GARAGEMOTOGUZZI.COM website, whose wealth of photos and videos offers visitors an opportunity to explore the world of each style and choose their favourite Moto Guzzi V7 configuration. The web pages of garagemotoguzzi.com are a virtual workshop where the Guzzi biker can configure their V7 to create a unique model, for a digital experience that replicates the exquisitely physical experience of customisation. The biker chooses the parts for their bike on sheets of paper laid out on the counter of a workshop, with sketches, photos and video clips combining to build a truly unique V7.

Mandello has developed more than 60 new details, which the biker combines as they please to configure a unique special. Moto Guzzi offers four kits for four different interpretations of the V7: Dark Rider: a gothic look inspired by nocturnal metropolitan settings; Scrambler: to transform the Moto Guzzi V7 road bike into a two-wheeler with an offroad look; Legend: a “two-in-one” exhaust unit, all-terrain tyres, green fuel tank, mudguards and flanks, for a configuration inspired by the Guzzi heritage; Dapper: a fascinating riding style directly derived from the racing world of the 1970s. Four worlds evolved from a deeply rooted motorcycle culture.

EXTRAORDINARY MOTORCYCLES: AUDACE AND MGX-21

The Moto Guzzi stand unveiled extraordinary bikes, constructed using the largest engine ever built at Mandello. First up, the splendidly muscular Audace, denoted by a circular headlamp assembly, 1400cc 90° V-twin engine and sporty new exhaust unit. The real star of the Moto Guzzi exhibit was the spectacular MGX-21 prototype, the emblematic essence of Guzzi motorcycling know-how introducing new interpretations of the bagger world.

So the Moto Guzzi exhibit at Motor Bike Expo also included cruisers, the most prestigious bikes from the Mandello manufacturer, powered by the splendid 1400cc twin-cylinder. Models on preview included the new Moto Guzzi Audace, dazzling, muscular and bad, with a circular headlamp assembly and carbon fibre mudguard. Another new feature is the dragbar handlebar, which, together with the forward position of the footpegs and different level of the seat, creates a longer, more dominant riding position. The powerful 1400cc 90° V-twin engine (the largest V-twin ever produced in Europe) boasts a new exhaust unit and achieves new vigour at high revs, underlining the rebellious nature of this new animal developed, like all Moto Guzzi motorcycles since 1921, on the banks of Lake Como.
Another great visitor attraction was the spectacular MGX-21 prototype, the emblem and essence of Moto Guzzi motorcycling know-how for the bagger community. A surprising idea that opens up a new approach to touring labelled Moto Guzzi. The MGX-21 picks and mixes from different cultures, but re-elaborates each element into the riding experience peculiar to every Moto Guzzi. A spectacular and extraordinarily evocative 21” front wheel, a new all-embracing mood for the rider but, above all, the legendary ridability of a Moto Guzzi bike.

PHILLIP ISLAND: THE 2015 SBK SEASON KICKS OFF
APRILIA RSV4 REIGNING WORLD CHAMPION

FOLLOWING THE EXTRAORDINARY DOUBLE TITLE TAKEN AT DOHA IN 2014, LEON HASLAM AND JORDI TORRES AIM TO INCREASE APRILIA'S IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION OF WREATHS IN SUPERBIKE: 7 WORLD TITLES IN 5 YEARS OF WSBK

WSBK 2015 - team presentation
Phillip Island (Australia), 18 February 2015 – The 2015 World Superbike adventure for team Aprilia Racing - Red Devils kicks off on the Australian Phillip Island track. The Italian brand - reigning world champion after winning the 2014 championship with the double Rider-Manufacturer world title, taken at the last round in Doha - is ready for the 2015 season with a revamped structure and two riders making their début on the Aprilia RSV4, the bike that has dominated WSBK in recent years.
Aprilia's world Superbike trophy case is quite impressive: 7 world titles won in just 5 seasons from 2010 to the present. This is an undisputed supremacy in the factory derivative segment that has contributed to enriching the global trophy case in the halls of Aprilia which, with 54 world titles in the various sport motorcycling disciplines (grand prix motorcycle racing, Superbike and Off-road) is one of the most victorious racing divisions of all time.

On the number 91 Aprilia RSV4, managed by Crew Chief Enrico Folegnani's team, is English rider Leon Haslam. The thirty-two year old from Ealing, runner-up world champion in 2010, has already had the chance to show his potential astride the V4 from Noale during the winter tests. On the other side of the garage, under the technical supervision of Lucio Gomes and making his début in World Superbike, is twenty-seven year old Spaniard Jordi Torres on the number 81 Aprilia RSV4.

Aprilia's new Superbike season gets underway, like last year, under the supervision of Romano Albesiano who manages all of the Piaggio Group's racing activities. In a year where Aprilia Racing's efforts will be doubled - after making their début in MotoGP a year ahead of the originally announced schedule - Paolo Bonora will be the Project Leader SBK, whereas the Aprilia SBK team management structure will be completed by Dario Raimondi as Team Coordinator, and Andrea Petricca.

ROMANO ALBESIANO: WE HAVE PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN RECENT SEASONS

WSBK 2015 team presentation - Romano Albesiano
Aprilia is taking on the 2015 World Superbike season with goals that its winning history in the factory derivative category demand. "We're the reigning World Champions and we have always played a key role in recent seasons" said Romano Albesiano. "There are some variables that could change things up on the playing field, especially in terms of regulations, but we have worked hard to adapt. We have a good mix of riders and I am pleased with these first test sessions. Leon is a solid and expert rider, runner-up in the 2010 season, and he has already proven to be fast astride the RSV4. For Jordi the first races will certainly be demanding since he'll be dealing with adapting to the new category, but I think he will be able to finish among the best within a reasonably short period.

LEON HASLAM: I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE APRILIA RSV4

WSBK 2015 team presentation - Leon Haslam
The two riders are particularly "fired up" after the first test sessions. "My goal for this season is to win, as it always is", said Leon Haslam, "and this year I'm pretty certain that I have the best possible technical package available to try and do just that. I fell in love with the Aprilia RSV4 from the very first laps. Performance is smooth and the electronics are my best weapon, plus I can count on a professional team that is accustomed to winning. Plus, I'm coming off my first winter break without any physical problems. I'm still not at 100% fitness but I'm improving day by day and I'm working with a highly skilled technical team."

JORDI TORRES: DEBUT WITH A POSITIVE FEELING

WSBK 2015 team presentation - Jordi Torres
"Being on a team that has won so often in Superbike is a guarantee. I'll need to work hard to take the best possible advantage of this opportunity", stated Jordi Torres. “This year everything is new for me: bike, team, category and even many of the circuits. I'm still working on adapting to all these changes, but I'm confident. My first sensations were very positive. My feeling is improving lap by lap and I can't wait to get down to business so I can show just what I am capable of."

PHOTO GALLERY

Dario Raimondi is also of the opinion that the Aprilia RSV4s will be in the spotlight from the start: "We have won a lot in recent years. We are the reigning champions, but fortunately that is a 'positive' pressure that we have grown accustomed to dealing with. Even the extraordinary finale at Dona last year demonstrated that. During the winter we worked both on putting together the new structure in the best possible way and on creating the right atmosphere with the new entries. The two new riders have already demonstrated an excellent feeling with the bike and the team. Our rivals will not make life easy for us, but we have all our ducks in a row to play a prominent role again in the 2015 season.
Andrea Petricca highlighted the two riders' strong motivation: "Leon and Jordi are both fired up and ambitious. They found the RSV4 to be formidable straight away and they know that they have the best possible technical package at their fingertips. In recent years Aprilia has demonstrated all their value among factory derivative bikes and they are one of the favourites, but that doesn't mean it will be a walk in the park. Hard work and concentration will be fundamental, as well as relying on partners who support our Superbike adventure.

VICTORY AND SECOND PLACE FOR HASLAM IN THE TWO AUSTRALIAN RACES

THIS IS APRILIA'S 50TH WIN IN WSBK. LEON HASLAM LEADS THE RIDER CHAMPIONSHIP, APRILIA AT THE TOP OF MANUFACTURER STANDINGS

Phillip Island (Australia), 22 February 2015 - Aprilia never gets tired of winning. The RSV4, reigning World Champion bike, and the new Aprilia Racing - Red Devils team, pick up where they left off in November, on that magical night in Qatar when the Italian team took the double world title. On the Phillip Island track Leon Haslam made his début astride the RSV4 and brought home Aprilia's 50th win in World SBK. The first victory was in 2000, right here at Phillip Island with the RSV Mille ridden by Troy Corser. But it has been in the last 5 years, and with the RSV4, that Aprilia has won all its championships in the factory derivative category, taking 4 Manufacturer and 3 Rider titles and racking up 42 of their 50 total wins. With these results Aprilia comes home from the Australian round with first place both in the Rider (with Haslam) and Manufacturer standings.

Romano AlbesianoAprilia Racing Manager had this to say about the 2015 opening round: “After a long winter where the guys in the racing department worked hard we arrived here at Phillip Island with a lot of question marks. These were all erased by this fantastic Sunday where Leon came so close to bringing home a double win, in any case putting in an excellent result in his first races with the RSV4. This promises to be a very well balanced season, with several riders in contention for the win, but I believe that our performance today once again confirms our competitiveness. Leon showed incredible courage and determination today, while Torres continues to improve and has already reached an enviable level for a rookie in this category.

Arriving at the Australian round with two new riders and the new RF version of the RSV4, Aprilia found itself in the limelight straight away with Leon Haslam. The fast English rider, making his first curtain call on the Italian V4, confirmed the RSV4's ability to win with riders of any style, and he was a key player in both races, battling courageously and cleanly with his countryman Jonathan Rea. In the first of the two races, after they pulled ahead of the pack along with Davies, they engaged in a memorable duel overtaking one another several times before the spectacular last lap. In the final race for the chequered flag, Rea broke through by just 39 thousandths of a second. The script was much the same with the players reversed in the second race. Haslam and Rea did battle, doing full honours to the spirit of this championship - which promises to be particularly spectacular this year - taking turns in the lead, once again down to the last lap. At the last turn Haslam came around in his countryman's slipstream, looking for the pass in the final run. And that is exactly how it went, with Leon Haslam winning his first championship race on an Aprilia 10 thousandths of a second ahead of Rea.

Leon Haslam: “This race brings back great memories. My last win was at Kyalami in 2010 after a great battle with Rea. My compliments to my team. They did a great job all weekend. In Race 1 I unfortunately made a mistake, but luckily I felt like I had a wide enough margin and I was able to rejoin the pack and finish second in the final dash by just a few thousandths. I started Race 2 even more motivated to win. Despite feeling like I had less “reserve” after the halfway point, everything went according to plan. In the last turn I opened up the throttle at the right time and I realised that I had overtaken Rea straight away right on the finish line. I am truly happy to finally be back on the top step of the podium!
The young Spanish rider, Jordi Torres, also had an opening day full of positive notes. In his first SBK race he stayed in the top spots of the standings, showing no reverential fear for the big names in the Championship and, after battling with the likes of Guintoli and Bayliss, he made an excellent fourth place finish. This was a great placement well within his reach in Race 2 as well, but just after overtaking Sykes after a long battle for fourth, he fell victim to a sliding crash without any physical damage, but which ended his race.

Jordi TorresThis was a Sunday where I learned a lot. In the first race we performed well. I was fast from the start and I learned a lot about tyre wear and what sort of riding style to use to conserve it. You have to avoid leaning all the way over and be very careful on the gas - a lesson that I was putting to good use in Race 2. Unfortunately Sykes really brakes hard, so I struggled to overtake him and just when I thought I could do it I pushed to hard and crashed. I need to take away all the good we did this weekend and stay calm. I can be fast but I need to improve the way I manage the race.
Andrea Petricca: “Today Haslam and the entire team won, a group of professionals who are accustomed to winning. We were well aware of the great potential that both Haslam and the RSV4 have and today at Phillip Island we received confirmation that Leon is capable of riding a top level championship to fight for the title. It won't be easy because we are competing at a very high level, but we will give it our best effort. Torres was making his début in the Superbike championship but he showed that he can compete with the fastest and most expert riders in the category, so we are confident that in the coming races he will bring home great results.” ”.

JEREZ, PORTIMÃO AND PHILLIP ISLAND:
GOOD VIBRATIONS FOR THE APRILIA RSV4 BIKES

JANUARY AND FEBRUARY WERE BUSY MONTHS FOR THE APRILIA-RED DEVILS TEAM, CONDUCTING TESTS IN PREPARATION FOR THE WSBK 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP WITH RIDERS LEON HASLAM AND JORDI TORRES. MAX BIAGGI WAS ON THE TRACK TOO, AS A TEST RIDER

JORDI TORRES

TWO DAYS OF TESTS AT PHILLIP ISLAND OPEN THE 2015 SUPERBIKE SEASON. EXCELLENT THIRD BEST TIME FOR ROOKIE JORDI TORRES, FIFTH FOR LEON HASLAM

Phillip Island (Australia), 17 February 2015 – The Superbike 2015 season opened, as usual, with two days of testing on the Phillip Island track where the first two races of the season will be held on 22 February. These were two essential days of testing for the Aprilia Racing – Red Devils team, after a winter break when the two new riders astride the RSV4 world champion bike often ran into bad weather. Yesterday and today, however, Leon Haslam and Jordi Torres were able to get quite a bit of work done together with their respective teams, gaining familiarity with the Superbike from Noale and exploring all the possible settings.

The thirty-one year old British rider undertook the tests focusing particularly on tyre wear, a vitally important factor for the races at Phillip Island. The long sweeping turns and the fast nature of the track require specific attention to this question, in terms of both setup and riding style. At the end of the two days, Haslam expressed his satisfaction with the work done in this area, well aware of the fact that there will be time on Friday and Saturday to take full advantage of his Aprilia RSV4's potential. Leon Haslam: “Another positive day. This morning we tried a lot of new things over a long run and this afternoon we focused on fine tuning everything, testing more new changes without pushing to the limit to try and find our best lap time. I'm pleased with the job we did this last couple of days and I'm confident about the first race weekend. We still have the Friday and Saturday practice sessions which we will use to make further improvements on some aspects of the setup and the electronics, but I'm confident that we will be very competitive on the race track.
For rookie Jordi Torres, making his debut in the category, the two days of tests were positive. The Spaniard improved lap by lap, increasing his familiarity with the RSV4 and working hard to find the best riding style for this type of bike. On a fast and demanding track like Phillip Island, Torres ended the two days with the third best time (fastest lap 1’30.971) despite having ridden largely on used tyres. This is an important calling card just a few hours from his first World Superbike race weekend. Jordi Torres: “At the end of the day I'm satisfied, even if there are still a lot of things I need to understand better, such as the braking sections or the “tight” ride this bike requires. The RSV4 rides well, the team is working hard. We need to continue working like this in order to improve lap by lap.

CONFIDENCE IN THE WORLD CHAMPION BIKE INCREASES AT JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA

Jerez (Spain), 27 January 2015 – Two days of intense activity at Jerez de la Frontera where the Aprilia-Red Devils team, together with riders Leon Haslam and Jordi Torres, were busy carrying out the final tests before leaving for the first race in the World Superbike 2015 championship, in Australia on 22 February.
Good weather enabled Leon and Jordi to complete a tight test schedule, boosting their familiarity with the Aprilia RSV4, the reigning World Champion bike, lap after lap. The lap times were reassuring, but the most important thing was the opportunity to explore the range of possible adjustments for the bike setup and electronics and to collect data that will prove useful as the season unfolds.

Leon Haslam: ready and in good shape

British-born Leon Haslam (31) had already been fast in Portimao, and confirmed that he was on good form. He has built up a good feeling with what for him is a new bike, so much so that he was able to work on tyre wear, simulating race conditions.
"We completed a lot of number of laps today, more than anyone else. We analysed a whole series of elements and now I’m very happy about the setup. In a race simulation at the end of the tests, we found a good speed and I gained confidence, even managing to improve on my best time using a soft tyre. That’s always been a problem for me, so making good use of the qualifier tyre was another reason to be pleased with these tests. I like the Phillip Island circuit, and it seems to suit my Aprilia, so we shall definitely be optimistic going into the first race.

Jordi Torres: growing in confidence

Rookie Jordi Torres made significant progress from the previous tests. Determined to do well in his World Superbike debut season, the 27-year-old Spanish rider (from Rubì) made the most of the two days of tests, lapping consistently (169 circuits by the end of the tests). Like Haslam, he also did a lot of work with used tyres, reporting a strong positive feeling.
"I’m pleased with how things went, we managed to cover a lot of ground. The bike is easy to ride, that’s my first impression, although I’m not at 100% yet, especially on the start and on centre bends. I still have to figure out a lot of things, but I’m going to Phillip Island in a confident mood, especially as we did an excellent job with the race tyres. We could have shaved off a few more tenths of a second, perhaps testing the qualifier tyre, but overall I’m very pleased.

Max Biaggi: wonderful to be in the saddle

Six-time world champion Max Biaggi was also with Aprilia at Jerez, together with test rider Michael Laverty. Biaggi made excellent progress, culminating in a best time of 1'41.9 on the race simulation.
Max Biaggi: "At the beginning of the tests, I had a few problems getting back into the swing, but that’s normal after a long break. I gradually began to feel more comfortable with the bike and this was reflected in my times, so my enthusiasm increased because I’m always happy to be in the saddle. I’m glad I completed the test program, that’s why I’m here and I was pleased to adapt to the needs of the team."

THE APRILIA-RED DEVILS TEAM ON THE TRACK FOR TWO DAYS OF TESTS IN PORTIMÃO

Portimão (Portugal), 22 January 2015 – The weather certainly didn’t help, but the Aprilia-Red Devils Superbike team left Portimão with the great satisfaction of having added another important piece to the puzzle in preparation for the 2015 World Championship. With a completely new rider line-up and the 2015 version of the RSV4, there is a lot of work to do to turn up at the first race in Australia in top fighting form. Yesterday the riders went out for only a brief run due to the extremely unpredictable weather conditions, whereas this afternoon they were able to take advantage of about 4 hours of dry track. Leon Haslam and Jordi Torres, who will be astride the RSV4, the reigning World Champion bike, continue their learning curve and have already responded well in terms of their feeling with the bike. Haslam, a fast, expert rider, finished the two days in the lead among the bikes fitted with transponders, saying that he was satisfied and excited about the upcoming season. Jordi Torres, at his maiden run (new bike, new category, new tyres and new circuit), was smiling too, as he began to gain familiarity with the RSV4.
Max Biaggi was also in Portimão, as an Aprilia test rider. Despite a harmless tumble on a track made tricky by the rain at the end of the first day, the six-times world champion completed the test schedule.

Romano Albesiano, Aprilia Racing Technical and Sport Manager: "Unfortunately the weather conditions put a damper on these tests. We would have liked to lap more and take home more information. The good news is Leon's time results with a bike that is still wet behind the ears in terms of mapping, and Jordi's start: without any knowledge of the bike and track, he still managed to work well. Today was also the maiden run for the new team structure in collaboration with Red Devils. This year we shall be competing in two championships, so we are still working out an organisation that will allow us to divide our forces the best possible way. Even Max, despite the troubles yesterday, was able to make an important contribution.
Andrea Petricca, Red Devils: "I’m really quite pleased with the way Leon and Jordi performed. Despite the unfavourable conditions, they did a great job. Haslam is no surprise. He had already shown his potential during the previous tests in Jerez astride the RSV4 RF and here he continued the same trend. Torres surprised me. On a track that he didn't know he showed encouraging progress and I'm sure that in the next test, just a few days away, he'll be able to grow even more.

THE APRILIA RS-GP PROJECT MAKES ITS DEBUT

ALVARO BAUTISTA

DISCOVERING THE APRILIA RACING TEAM GRESINI AFTER THE TESTS IN MALESIA. ROMANO ALBESIANO: “IN ORDER TO GROW WE NEED TO GET INTO THE MIX WITH OUR RIVALS RIGHT AWAY IN RACE CONDITIONS, BEARING IN MIND THE DIFFICULTIES THAT SUCH A DEMANDING NEW PROJECT WILL INEVITABLY FACE.” FAUSTO GRESINI: “BAUTISTA’S PERFORMANCE IS POSITIVE. MELANDRI NEEDS TO ADAPT TO A COMPLETELY NEW TECHNICAL SITUATION, BUT WE ARE CONFIDENT.”

Sepang (Malaysia), 6 February 2015 – The first three days of MotoGP 2015 testing have just come to an end at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia. Essential information was drawn from the "three days" of testing for the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini. The new RS-GP showed good potential, which now needs to be completely refined. Compared to the previous version, which was developed on a base that the Aprilia Racing Department knew very well, the changes are such to require further checks. Next test in late February, again in Sepang. Then the great "circus" will move in mid-March in Qatar, for the third practice session: appointment on the circuit of Doha where the 2015 season will start on the weekend of 29 March.

MARCO MELANDRI

Romano Albesiano, Aprilia Racing Manager had this to say about the first tests at Sepang: “I can confirm what I said yesterday. The initial results are definitely positive, considering the fact that the new RS-GP is taking its first steps and that Aprilia's return to MotoGP is a year ahead of schedule to fully develop the project during the course of the sport season. In order to grow we need to get into the mix with our rivals right away in race conditions, bearing in mind the difficulties that such a demanding new project will inevitably face."
The Aprilia Racing Team Gresini is already looking toward the second round of tests, also scheduled at Sepang: "The next tests will certainly give us a clearer idea of our potential. These last few days we put the Aprilia bike on the track which will be the one we use this season and we collected an important amount of data that we will use to base our 2015 development on” added Romano Albesiano. "There were a lot of technical aspects to tackle, but that is quite normal considering the fact that this was the first shakedown. I'm sure we would feel less pressure if it were just us lapping on private tracks, but that wasn't Aprilia's intention."

PHOTO GALLERY

Fausto Gresini: “Considering the fact that the project is in its fledgling states and that right now we are obviously still not interested in lap times, I think that Bautista's performance over these three days was positive. Keep in mind also that Sepang is also one of the most demanding and difficult tracks of the championship. After testing the new Aprilia RS-GP Alvaro decided to go back and focus on the 2014 version which is giving him a better feeling at the moment. Along with the mechanics he worked quite a lot on both fronts to gather a large amount of data which will be used by the Aprilia Racing engineers to develop the technical package. As for Melandri, we knew that it would not be easy for him to get used to a completely new technical situation. Marco needs to adapt his riding style to this type of tyre and we know that takes time. We have confidence in him. The important thing is that he stays focused and determined.
Marco Melandri and Alvaro Bautista, the riders who have the task of developing the new Aprilia MotoGP project, worked hard over the last three days, assessing new material and conducting comparison tests with the previous version of the bike. While the only change for Alvaro is the bike, Marco on the other hand had to adapt to a brand new environment with a very different technical package compared to the one he had last year.

ALVARO BAUTISTA: “I’M CONFIDENT, APRILIA IS WORKING A LOT”

I'm quite pleased with these first three days of testing. The team worked well, giving me maximum support. On the first two days I conducted various comparisons between the bike used at the end of last year and the new RS-GP which, in any case, is still not giving me good sensations in terms of chassis performance. So on the last day I decided to focus on the 2014 version in order to gather as much data as possible and to allow the engineers to work in view of the next tests, scheduled at the end of the month. We worked a lot on the electronics and did various setup tests and I'm pleased with what we found. The important thing is that we know which areas need improvement. We gathered a lot of data so the result is positive. Aprilia is very committed. I'm confident for the next session.

MARCO MELANDRI: “THE FEELING WITH THE NEW BIKE IS TO BE BUILT”

Marco Melandri: “I admit that I was expecting a better début, but when we decided to take on this new adventure we knew that is would be a lot of hard work for us. I have to build a feeling with the bike completely from scratch. We need time and we need to think about what we found in these tests in order to improve as quickly as possible.

TWO APRILIA RSV4 RR BIKES IN THE WORLD SUPERSTOCK 1000 FIM CUP 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP

Noale, 12 February 2015 – The “New M2 Racing Team” will take part in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup category of the 2015 Superbike world championship, with two new Aprilia RSV4-RR bikes, the cutting-edge product of the Noale manufacturer presented at the EICMA international motorcycle show in Milan.

Riders Lorenzo Savadori and Kevin Calia will compete in the 2015 World SBK in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup category with the Aprilia RSV4-RR bikes of the Nuova M2 Racing Team, which is currently drawing up a track management agreement with Aprilia for the Noale bike, with Enzo Chiapello as Team Manager. The new world challenge where the Nuova M2 Racing Team hopes to establish a strong position as from the first year of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup will not preclude the participation of three riders – Kevin Calia, Enzo Chiapello and Alessandro Andreozzi – in the Superbike category of the 2015 Italian Speed Championship.

I had to pinch myself when Romano Albesiano called me, and I’m eternally grateful to him; after ‘playing’ with Piaggio mopeds as a boy, I’ve become a member of the Aprilia family,” says Lorenzo Savadori. “I can’t wait to try out the new bike at the winter trials, I’m busy training to give a top performance in the new season. Working with Aprilia and Nuova M2 Racing will give me the opportunity to learn efficient new working methods, which will very useful for my development as a rider! I want to thank my manager Lucio Pedercini, my family who together with my friends helped me take the decisions involved in my professional career, and all my sponsors who enable me to live my passion.” “I’m very grateful to the team management for giving me this new opportunity, which makes me very proud and inspires me to do even better!” says Kevin Calia. “Last year at the CIV SBK I immediately felt at home with the entire team, who showed they believed in me, and I hope to repay them with successful results. I’ve been working for months to be on top form for the dual challenge of the world championship and the CIV. You need to be really fit, but now I can’t wait to get on the new bike and start this adventure with Nuova M2 Racing working side by side with Aprilia, and that’s why I want to thank Romano Albesiano personally. Thanks also to my family, the sponsors who believe in me, and to my friends, who will be following the new season with great excitement!

A WINNING MOTO GUZZI
IN THE TT OPEN MAXI CATEGORY

A VERY SPECIAL 850 T5 HAS WON THE TT OPEN MAXI CATEGORY IN THE ITALIAN VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE CHAMPIONSHIP. IT WAS RIDDEN BY ANTONIO SAITTA OF THE MASSMOTO MECHANIC’S SHOP. HUNDREDS OF RIDERS COMPETED, FROM ALL OVER EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA

The Moto Guzzi story is inextricably linked with the motor-racing world. A world of passion, technology and innovation, plus a pinch of healthy folly, Italian style. Like the folly that led Sicilian mechanic Antonio Saitta from the MassMoto mechanic’s shop to compete with a truly special 850 T5. And, once again, to win.
The Italian vintage motorcycle championship is organised in a number of different groups and categories. The groups are: Group 5 (pure speed), Group 4 (reliability), Endurance; each group is subdivided into a series of engine displacement categories. MassMoto took part in the top Group 5 category, known as TT Open Maxi, for bikes with 4-stroke engines (up to 1,200cc for twin cylinders like the T5, up to 1,000cc for four cylinders) and bikes with 2-stroke engines and more than 500cc, built until 1983.

The 2014 championship consisted of six events, held at the top Italian racetracks: Varano, Adria, Vallelunga, Magione, Franciacorta and Misano Adriatico. The MassMoto Moto Guzzi bike collected three podiums (second place in Adria, third in Vallelunga, first and fastest lap in Misano Adriatico). At this last event, dominated by the Massmoto Moto Guzzi bike, more than 400 riders competed from teams all over Europe as well as some from Australia.
The basic motorcycle is a Moto Guzzi 850 T5, extensively adapted by the MassMoto mechanics. On the frame, the head tube angle has been adjusted from 28° to 25°, while triple clamps with a 25mm offset have been mounted to provide a 96mm front wheel trail, for an excellent blend of manageability and stability. The swingarm, built entirely by Saitta, delivers 35% more rigidity than the original, but weighs 2.5 kg less (1.75 kg compared with 4.25 kg). The complete bike has a dry weight of 155 kg.
The 1,150cc engine (95x81.2mm) uses combustion units and crankshaft from the Norge 1200, mounted on the modified original cylinder block. The camshaft and lightweight rod and tappet system are Scola kit components. The carburettors are Mikuni, with a 44mm choke. The engine offers just under 100 whp at 8,000 rpm.
But Saitta the wizard has no intention of stopping here: he knows exactly what he wants for 2015: “The bike is highly competitive in terms of chassis and ridability; the only problem in its category is the maximum engine power, so our development work now focuses primarily on the engine. To boost the power, in addition to a small increase in the cc with new connecting rods, pistons and cylinders, we want to raise the maximum number of revs significantly, by alleviating the timing as much as possible. If everything goes according to plan, the engine should provide more than 120 whp.
MassMoto’s main activity is custom design and production of high-performance racing exhaust systems, for all brands of motorcycle, very often used as the basis for special models.

LEATHER AND SWEATSHIRTS:
WARDROBE MUSTS

The fashion shows in Milan, London and New York have decreed the indispensable items for our mid-season wardrobes as we move from winter into the first days of spring. Leather and sweatshirts, true evergreens: styles and fabrics that never go out of fashion, safe buys you’ll never regret. Take a look at the Moto Guzzi apparel collection, you’re bound to find just the garment you need, for the city and for leisure time. Even if you’re not a biker.

LINDSAY LOHAN

Hands up anyone who has never worn a sweatshirt. Like jeans, the sweatshirt didn’t start life as a fashion item, but it has become one. First worn by workers to keep themselves warm, it later moved into sport, for winter training sessions (which is where the name “sweatshirt” comes from), and gradually established itself as casual ware for leisure time and eventually a fashion item. Available in a variety of models and fabrics, the hoodie is one of the most popular, even among celebrities. After it appeared in the USA in the 1930s, the sweatshirt began to be worn by women, the girlfriends of athletes on American campuses, who borrowed their boyfriends’ sweatshirts with the logo of their university, starting a new trend. Today, leading fashion brands, not just in the sports world, include sweatshirts in their collections. Like jeans, they have become wardrobe staples.

LEATHER

The range offers two top-selling leather jackets: California (for her and him) and Racer (for him). Careful attention to lines and details, for quality of the highest level. The California jacket, in natural napa leather, tanned and finished in Italy, has elasticated cuffs and waistband, a wool and polyester lining, with red piping. Plus, Moto Guzzi and California logos inside the jacket printed in silver on leather patches. Three outside pockets (two for her) and one inside pocket, with a tone-on-tone thermoformed Moto Guzzi logo on the back. For riders who want a vintage look, the Racer jacket comes with removable elbow, shoulder and back pads, detachable internal thermal gilet and preformed sleeves for greater comfort.
Leather too for the belts in the accessories range. Two models are available, a classic Moto Guzzi belt with a brushed steel buckle and a Moto Guzzi belt with an oval buckle and enamel “eagle” logo (available with a blue background or a black background).

SWEATSHIRTS

The Moto Guzzi 2015 collection features the new “Custom puzzle” sweatshirt, for him and for her: 100% cotton, long zip, hood, Moto Guzzi logo over the heart, a print with a motorbike on the back, together with the date the brand was created, 1921, and the phrase My bike, My pride. A genuine all-purpose garment, available in red or grey.

The collection offers two other sweatshirt models, Original and Tank; these can be combined with t-shirts and polo shirts, for a coordinated look. The sweatshirts have a long zip, elasticated cuffs and waistband, a contrasting colour inside the collar, and Moto Guzzi logos and wording.

MISSIONARY AND GUZZI BIKER: PAOLO PUPILLO IN ZAMBIA

Don Paolo Pupillo lives in Zambia, where he conducts his mission with the help of his Moto Guzzi Nevada. The Moto Guzzi World Club has organised a solidarity operation for him, in cooperation with the Order of the Guzzi Knights of Malta (formed in 2013, for charity and solidarity initiatives). Don Paolo wants to fight a serious social scourge: road accidents, caused usually by failure to comply with the most basic road safety rules, such as not driving in unsuitable psycho-physical conditions. He is organising road safety driving courses, called: Kweenzya Kucilila Mulawo, which in the Chitonga language means: “driving in accordance with the law”. The Moto Guzzi World Club has re-named the program “Operation KKM solidarity”. Guzzi bikers can contribute to the initiative at Club meetings and events. Acknowledging the friendship and support he has received, the missionary has founded the Moto Guzzi Club Zambia of which he is president and sole member, with local supporters.

LIFE IN SIAVONGA

In this short video, missionary Paolo Pupillo tells the interviewer about life in the poor district of Siavonga, in Zambia, a few miles from Lake Kariba. He has lived in St. Mathias since 2009; the many villages he looks after are located in a very large area, covering hundreds of kilometres, where he often moves around on his motorcycle.

Zambia, missionary Paolo Pupillo in the poor district of Siavonga

TRANSLATION OF THE VIDEO INTERVIEW: Q. Does someone manage to leave the area, to improve their lives? A. Yes, some people manage, it’s difficult but some people manage; above all, I’d say it’s people who have a job, especially in areas linked to tourism and at the hospital, and can give their children the opportunity to study. A son or daughter who has received an education has the chance to leave the area. Q. How many of the youngsters here manage to study? A. All of them attend primary school, but after that no one. It’s difficult…Q. How much does it cost to go to school? A. For them it costs about a million a year in local money, the equivalent to two or three months’ local salary, and many people have large families, so it’s difficult for them to give all their kids an education.

WINGS OF THE EAGLE

The coincidence is obvious: missionary Paolo Pupillo is a Guzzi biker; the eagle is the symbol of the famous Italian motorcycle brand; the eagle appears on the flag of Zambia where he works to help those in need; and an eagle protectively embracing Africa is the symbol of the Italian no-profit association “Ali d’aquila”. The group formed by lay volunteers promotes educational, economic and social projects and support Don Paolo’s work in Zambia.

TRAVELLING IN ZAMBIA
IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF DR LIVINGSTONE

For the multimedia channel of The Times newspaper, Jason Von Berg has produced a report entitled “Travel to Zambia”, where he recommends the African country as a destination to get away from urban stress. Zambia offers spectacular scenery, from the celebrated Victoria Falls to the Zambesi river.

Travel to Zambia
In this video, Jason rides to the city of Livingstone, named after the famous Scottish explorer David Livingstone (who was also a medical missionary). Livingstone was the first European to explore the area, in the mid-19th century, and to see the great waterfall, which he renamed in honour of Queen Victoria. The remark made by Welsh journalist Henry Morton Stanley who been sent to find Livingstone, and met him near Lake Tanganyika, has gone down in history, a restrained: “Doctor Livingstone, I presume”, as if they were at a party, whereas in fact they were the only two Europeans in Africa for a radius of hundreds of miles.

CELEBRITIES AND THEIR GUZZI BIKES:
FILIPPO MAGNINI AND HIS SPECIAL CHAMPION

Among the celebrities seen at the international Motor Bike Expo 2015 in Verona, swimming enthusiasts will have noted world champion Filippo Magnini. A two-wheeler fan since he was a lad, Filippo had been looked for a custom bike for some time. He approached customiser Nicola Martini, who developed a special Moto Guzzi bike for him (handlebar, pedals, tank, yellow saddle – Filippo’s favourite colour – vintage trim).
The result is a unique stylish motorcycle for comfortable riding with a passenger, nicknamed “Champion”. Filippo posed on the bike at the Verona show together with the customiser, then posted tweets and photos for his fans, which were soon published in the papers.
With his special bike, Filippo Magnini has joined the worldwide clan of Guzzi bikers.

ALASKA-ARGENTINA WITH A MOTO GUZZI V7
FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CHE GUEVARA

DUTCHMAN PAUL VAN HOOF’S TRIP HAS BECOME A BOOK: “THE MAN ON A SADDLE”: 60,000 KILOMETRES OF FREEDOM ON A LEGENDARY BIKE

On his website – Guzzi Galore – journalist/reporter, traveller and writer Paul van Hoof (1964) says: “When I left Holland in May 2005, I had 12,000 euro in my pocket, enough for a year’s trip. In the end I travelled for three years, recounting my adventures on my website, and many people helped me.” Now his three-year trip from Dead Horse (Alaska) to Ushuaia (Argentina) has been turned into a book, recently published, entitled “The Man on a Saddle”, with the subtitle: “60,000 km of freedom”. His co-star is Guus, a vintage Moto Guzzi V7 from 1975, which took Paul along astonishing roads, in the footsteps of Che Guevara, through Argentine deserts and Bolivian mountains, in the most extreme conditions.

Legendary Moto Guzzi V7 arrives in Ushuaia
Back home and having finished his book, over the last few months Paul has been busy promoting his oeuvre in bookstores and interviews. Newspaper and magazine reviews have been flattering: “The Moto Guzzi V7… is the star of one of the best travel books of the last few years… although it recounts the adventures of Paul van Hoof and his bike, it reads more like a novel,” they say.

QUEEN OF THE ROAD

A three-year trip, “the best years of my life,” says Paul, who speaks with great affection for his travel companion, his beloved Moto Guzzi V7 (aged 30 when the trip began): “The godmother of all Moto Guzzi bikes, a legend: three years out travelling, 60,000 km and not a single mechanical problem; she’s the queen of the road.”

VIDEOS BEFORE THE GO-PRO AGE

Paul also made some videos of his trip. “Poor quality?” he writes. “Possibly. These films were shot well before the GoPro age. With a 100 dollar video camera I always have with me.” They’ve been seen by tens of thousands of followers. Here’s a selection.

AUSTRALIA: THE MOTO GUZZI OWNERS ASSOCIATION.
35 YEARS OF BRAND LOYALTY

The Moto Guzzi Owners Association of NSW (New South Wales) is an Australian club for lovers of Italy's noble Moto Guzzi brand. Based in Sydney, New South Wales, it has members all over the state.
The first “official” meeting of the Moto Guzzi Owners Association was held on a small property in Buckety, on the hills behind Gosford, in February 1980, with an inaugural club ride and the election of a working committee, later ratified at the association’s first general meeting (20 May 1980) at the Ashfield RSL Youth Club Hall. At the meeting, the association was officially established by 29 founder members, many of whom are still in the club today.

PHOTO GALLERY

The Australian association of Moto Guzzi owners has around 100 members, plus countless fans who share enthusiasm, cordiality, loyalty to the Italian brand, mutual help for every detail, technical and otherwise, concerning their beloved Moto Guzzi bikes, new or vintage. This is the spirit of the club, which meets every month at the Friend in Hand Hotel in Glebe.
The club’s most important event of the year is the MGOA Ragged Fringe1 Rally, in September. But their annual calendar is packed with occasions to meet up and have a good time. The new year, the 35th since the club was formed, got off to a racing start: Island Classic 2015 (23-26 February, a vintage race on the famous Phillip Island circuit, in Cowes); a camping weekend in Mystery Bay (7-8 February); then a ride on 15 March, participation in the annual Barry Sheen Festival of Speed 2015 (21-22 March) with a great motorbike parade.

MOTO GUZZI CALIFORNIA T3 TRIBUTE

best video

The caption to this video is simple and passionate, just like the images in the clip: “The best V2 engine, and the best road holder!”
The star is Klauss, a biker who finds a Guzzi California T3, a splendid forty-year-old whose touches of rust just add to its vintage charm, in an abandoned warehouse.
The four-minute video has been seen by almost 90,000 viewers. The eagle brand is all it takes to get the clicks soaring!

The clip, produced by the Barbier Family Company for Klauss, has won many messages of appreciation (Excellent! is the most frequent). Watch the outro for the rest of the credits (and a humorous aside).

BUT ANN MARGRET BEATS KLAUSS

best video
Ann-Margret riding Moto Guzzi

Continuing the vintage Moto Guzzi theme, for the record fascinating Swedish actress Ann Margret beats Guzzi biker Klauss, with more than 103,000 clicks for the short video with clips from a 1968 Italian movie, “The Prophet” (with Vittorio Gassman, director Dino Risi). Two beauties secure the victory: the actress and the vintage Moto Guzzi bike. Today, however, Ann Margret would be roundly condemned for her improvised look (her outfit caused a sensation at the time) and the absence of a crash helmet. Days long gone!
