Northern Ireland’s splendid capital city welcomed more than three thousand Vespas officially registered for the event – in addition to a thousand or so that spontaneously came in from all over the UK and the Republic of Ireland – representing 37 nations, from the United States to Indonesia, from Australia to Mexico, and from Canada to China, including all of Europe and the Mediterranean as far as Israel.

Important testimony of the universality of the Vespa legend, currently seeing a resurgence.

A spectacular line of Vespas snaked its way along the beautiful Causeway Coast, past green meadows and the North Sea, welcomed and applauded by the local population on the way to Belfast, a trendy new holiday destination which Lonely Planet ranks first in the Top 10 places to visit.

The oldest of the many Vespas on display was a splendid, highly efficient 1951 Vespa Douglas, perfectly preserved down to its vintage original spare tyre. As usual, the Vespa World Days concluded with the proclamation of the winners of the Vespa Trophy, the popular tourist trophy presented in partnership with Michelin, open to Vespa Club members who document all the stops on their trip to Belfast with photos and special stamps in their Travel Books.

Victory smiled on the Italians, thanks to the Verona Vespa Club, which arrived just before the Morciano di Romagna Vespa Club, followed by the Belgian team of the Oostende Vespa Club. Special awards were presented to the Presidents of the Vespa Clubs of Cyprus and Oostende, while the Solitary Vespista prize was awarded to a woman for the first time, a member of the Prague Vespa Club who travelled solo over more than 6000 km to get to Belfast.

Vespa World Days celebrate the timeless legend of the Vespa: a scooter that has gone beyond its function as an easy, elegant way of making the daily commute to become a global icon loved by generations. Vespa and its fans were born together, with the establishment of the first Vespa Clubs in 1946, the year the world’s best-known scooter was born. There are now fully 53 National Vespa Clubs associated with the Vespa World Club, as well as hundreds of officially censused local Vespa Clubs, with a total of more than 120,000 members all over the world.
