OFFICIAL OPENING VESPA WORLD DAYS 2024.
ERA THEATRE – PONTEDERA, 18 APRIL 2024:

Pontedera (Tuscany, Italy), 18th April 2024 – With Pontedera already teeming with thousands of Vespisti from all over Europe as well as further afield, from countries such as the USA, Canada, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Kuwait, Australia, Colombia, Japan and Argentina, the 2024 edition of the Vespa World Days eventofficially started today – the annual gathering that brings together national Vespa Clubs from all over the world. This year, it is being held in the birthplace of the Vespa, in the town where this iconic vehicle has been produced non-stop since 1946. This edition of the event is also particularly special as it celebrates 140 years of Piaggio: the company was founded in 1884.

The inauguration of the Vespa Village marks the beginning of this huge party for the Vespa fans who have come in their droves from all corners of the world: from today until Sunday 21st April, the Village area – located in Piazza del Mercato in Pontedera – will be brought to life with events and shows, with several exhibition stands available to visit. This includes the official Vespa stand, where the entire range will be on display, plus merchandise available to buy.

Elsewhere, a food & beverage area will also give Vespisti and visitors to the event the perfect opportunity to get together, celebrating the spirit of the Vespa clubs.

On the occasion of the kick-off of the Vespa World Days 2024, a Vespa GTS 300 was presented to the State Police in the town: this special Vespa model will join the forces of law and order as they open the spectacular parade on Saturday 20th April, which will make its way through the most beautiful places in Valdera.
It promises to be an incredible procession stretching more than 10 kilometres in length: in addition to the eight thousand Vespas that are officially registered for the event, thousands more are expected to join, many already on their way to Tuscany. The State Police Vespa will subsequently be displayed at the State Police Car Museum in Rome.

"I would like to thank Piaggio on behalf of the State Police as a whole," announced Sebastiano Salvo, the Police Commissioner of Pisa."This remarkable Vespa is a source of great pride for us; it will open the parade on Saturday, bearing testament to our dedication to ensuring the safety of everyone, which is always our primary and most important goal. This special, unique specimen will then be carefully preserved in the National State Police Car Museum."
Davide Zanolini, Director of Marketing and Communications for Piaggio Group, stated: "On an occasion that is the source of such pride, as we celebrate both the Vespa World Days and 140 years of Piaggio, it is important for us to reiterate the sense of affinity we have for Italy’s institutions. This is why we wanted the State Police to open the great Vespa World Days parade, in order to celebrate this truly special union. This Vespa represents a strong connection which goes back so many years and makes us truly proud."

The first day of the celebrations also ushered in the opening of the major exhibition "Vespa all over the World" at the Piaggio Museum, featuring spectacular original material from the Piaggio Historical Archive. This exhibition tells the story of Vespa’s rapid spread around the world, narrating its early internationalisationbetween the late 1940s and the 1960s. Through the reconstruction of an imaginary, global assembly line – and thanks to the generosity of collectors who have donated a number of extremely rare original models to the exhibition, produced and outfitted all over the world – visitors can follow Vespa’s journey on the thousands of roads it has travelled, witnessing the speed with which this iconic vehicle was built, assembled and sold on every continent, decades before the concept of globalisation even became popularised.

Today, the first test rides also took place, with models from the Vespa range being put to the test, while on Sunday 21st April, the award ceremony for the winners of the Vespa Trophy will be held – the highly-coveted touring trophy that sets Vespa Club members against each other as they create an account of all the stops on their journey to Pontedera, with photos and special stamps in their Travel Book.
