TRIP DIARY

THE CLAN AT THE 41ST STELVIO INTERNATIONAL RALLY:
HERE TALES, PHOTOS AND VIDEO

For some people it’s just another badge on their bike fairing while for others it’s all about the snapshot taken under the road sign indicating the summit, but for any true biker like we members of The Clan, riding up the Stelvio Pass on a bike is a one-in-a-million lifetime experience.

Fortunately there is one fixed date in our diary that brings us back here every year to take on some of the most famous hairpin bends in the Alps on the border between Italy and Switzerland at one of the wildest rallies on the annual calendar: the Stelvio International Rally.

And so, on Friday 30 June 2017 we hit the road once again, arranging to meet up at the Moto Guzzi stand in the rally village at Sondalo to share three days of fun and biking passion with many members of The Clan and riders from all around Europe.

So here is our usual video story, a concentrated version of everything that we saw and experienced while riding around on our Moto Guzzis.

The Clan on the Road - 41° Raduno Stelvio International (30 June - 02 July 2017)

We began by test riding the Moto Guzzi range of bikes up and down the twisty roads of the Valtellina, from the V7, the V9 Bobber and Roamer, the California, the Eldorado and the Audace all the way through to the top of the range MGX-21, one after the other, enveloped in the smell of pine resin emanating from the wooded valleys until we reached the pure, rarefied air of the higher passes. We got to meet some friends from the community who braved the rather dicey weather on Saturday to take part in the first The Clan Riding Practice: an intensive 8-hour theory and practical on-road riding specialisation course presented by instructors from the GSSS school (Guida Dinamica Sicura su Strada), free of charge and only for members of The Clan. This idea was born partly as a result of your suggestions posted right here on the community website.

We watched the guys strut their stuff at the Stelvio Stunt Competition Match. This was a totally new event at this year’s rally, with international stunt riders competing against each other in various tests of riding skills and displaying their total control of their two-wheelers (don’t try this at home hey!), judged by a panel that included, amongst others, two exceptional riders like Carlos Checa and Marco Melandri. Then we travelled some more, this time in our imaginations, playing with The Clan trip map and winning goodies in a race to “hit the target” in previous or future legs of the trip or simply in legs that we dream of covering during our next adventure.

And to end it all off on a high note we packed away our Trip Diary containing all your signatures and messages into the rucksack, straddled a magnificent V7 50 Anniversario and rode up to the summit of the Stelvio Pass, where we planted an imaginary flag to celebrate this fantastic community of fans known as The Clan.”
