An impressive organisational effort and a huge passion for the Vespa: these ingredients ensured the success of the “XVIII Encuentro Nacional e Internacional de Vespa Club”, held from 16 to 18 November 2018 in La Plata (the capital city of Buenos Aires province, lying about 60 km from Buenos Aires).
Members of Vespa clubs from all over Argentina took part in the event, promoted by the La Plata Vespa Club, whose president is Daniel Ussomorel, under the aegis of the national Argentina Vespa Club and the Vespa World Club, and with the collaboration of a number of important sponsors, starting with the Motoplex Devoto/San Isidro dealer, and the patronage of the Municipalidad de La Plata and the Italian Consulate in La Plata, represented by official Alberto Castelli. The meeting attracted extensive coverage in Argentinian newspapers and TV channels.
The event brought together Vespa fans of all ages, young and old, with a program of convivial meetings and rides to discover the city of La Plata and its surroundings. A display of vintage and modern vehicles was also organised.
Here is the letter president Daniel Ussomorel sent to the presidents of the many Vespa Clubs that took part. “As President of the La Plata Vespa Club, I have great pleasure in sending my warmest greetings and thanks to all the clubs present at the XVIII national and international event held from 16 to 18 November in La Plata.
The objective was perhaps seen as too ambitious for a committee unaccustomed to this type of large-scale organisation. But what seemed unimaginable at first gradually materialised as the results emerged, the outcome of the hard work of the organising committee, which spared no effort to make it possible. Beginning with the fact that it obtained the patronage of the Italian Consulate in La Plata, with decree no. 264, which declared the event to be of municipal interest for La Plata. The committee also secured the presence of sponsors of local importance linked to the brand, for a prize draw of a Vespa scooter for an event participant.” A keenly coveted prize! This was in addition to many other prize draws including useful Vespa accessories and gadgets.
President Daniel Ussomorel’s letter continues: “The high turnout reflected the great success of the event, which was confirmed by the congratulations we received from many people and businesses. The city’s main newspaper devoted extensive space to news about the meeting, and a number of television interviews were conducted with the members of the Commission, who underlined the importance of the event.

In parallel, one of the leading dailies of the Buenos Aires capital published a detailed article about the Vespa’s status as an Italian icon and the passion it arouses in its users, emphasising the success of the Vespa meeting in La Plata. I wish to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to an event that exceeded our expectations. I am very proud that we were able to count on the support of many disinterested and hard-working people: without them, the meeting would not have been possible”.
