14 February 2022 - From 14 February to 13 March 2022, the Ministry of Economic Development will be hosting the ITALIA GENIALE (‘Brilliant Italy’’ is the meaning of the title) exhibit at the via Veneto location, in Rome. Design enables, universally appreciated beauty, originality and creativity of industrial design, which was set up in the Italy pavilion of Expo Dubai and promoted in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the General Committee for Expo 2020 Dubai, ADI (Association for Industrial Design), Unioncamere and the Italian trade agency.

This is how Palazzo Piacentini, the historic Ministry of Economic Development location, is celebrating its 90 years. This is the first event on a calendar of cultural initiatives that will be held throughout 2022 with the goal of promoting the Ministry’s artistic heritage. The celebrations will culminate on 30 November, the date the building was inaugurated in 1932.

“The exhibit,” minister Giancarlo Giorgetti says, “is a manifest of our industrial design that we want to bring to the attention of those who want to stop and admire the creative works of Italian ingenuity.”
Italia Geniale includes a selection of iconic objects of Italian design – like Vespa – and it is a tribute to the creativity and work of Italian companies. Beginning from the promotion of the heritage of Italy’s brands and patents registered with the Ministry in the UIBM (translator’s note: Italian Patent and Trademark Office). The layout is made up of over 60 pieces which describe creativity, functionality, and quality and favour the mobility of Italian industry.

“The centre of all the products presented in the exhibit undoubtedly remains humankind, with our needs and dreams.” commented ADI president, Luciano Galimberti.
The exhibit, created out of the initiative of the general direction to protect industrial property, is curated by Carlo Martino (La Sapienza University of Rome) and Francesco Zurlo (Milan Polytechnic), the project is directed by Luciano Galimberti and by the Director of ADI Design Museum Andrea Cancellato, the visual identity by studio SM5 which, with Ivo Caruso, also handled the layout.

The extraordinary lighting design for the Sironi showcase and the lighting of the via Veneto entrance was created with the collaboration of Acea.
The pieces exhibited are arranged in 5 categories: Liveable, Moveable – the section where Vespa Elettrica is displayed – Workable, Relationable, and Imaginable.
