November 2018 – A galaxy of international brands and stars took part in the annual World AIDS Day campaign – the (RED) Shopathon – to raise funds for the fight against AIDS. (RED) is mobilising businesses, their customers, celebrities and their fans.

(RED) co-founder Bono explained: "If you think the HIV virus is in the rear-view mirror, think again, because all I see are flashing red lights: It’s still an emergency, especially for women and girls …”

“That’s why it’s so important that we keep the world’s focus on this crisis, and we couldn’t have a better partner in that than Jimmy Kimmel and his army of funny friends, and our (RED) partner companies who are donating their cash and using their marketing genius to dial-up the heat in the fight against AIDS; tremendous progress has been made – 22 million lives have been saved – but it is all at risk if we falter now, just short of the finish line.”

The Jimmy Kimmel show (aired on ABC on Monday 19 November 2018) was a success: for the fourth year running, the well-known TV presenter generously donated his show – Jimmy Kimmel Live! – to benefit the AIDS fight with (RED). Many international stars – including Bono, Lady Gaga, Drake, Armie Hammer & Elisabeth Chambers Hammer, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Bell, Pharrell, Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Channing Tatum, Snoop Dogg, Mila Kunis, Brad Paisley, Zoe Saldana, Phoebe Robinson, Rich Brian – joined the show, amid laughter and prizes, to present the (RED) products like the Vespa 946 which this year once again co-starred on the Jimmy Kimmel special.

"This is our fourth and most star-studded (RED) special yet. I am grateful to Bono and all the great names who are joining the fight to end AIDS, on what promises to be our biggest show yet,” said Jimmy Kimmel. Kristen Bell commented: "I’m honoured to be back for the third year in a row to help bring attention to this tragic epidemic that impacts so many people around the globe, particularly women. (RED) makes it easy for everyone to do their part and Jimmy brings the party every time.”

With Vespa, the Piaggio Group has been a (RED) partner for many years: for every 946 (RED) scooter it sells, 150 dollars are donated to the Global Fund against AIDS; a sum sufficient to guarantee more than 500 days of anti-HIV/AIDS drugs in sub-Saharan Africa. These medicines prevent a mother with HIV from passing the virus on to her child during pregnancy.
