MOTO GUZZI V9 ONYX: THE BLACK JEWEL FOR CLAUDIA

A SUPER SPECIAL BIRTHDAY GIFT FOR HIS BIKER WIFE, CREATED BY HARALD GEPPERT, MECHANIC AND EXPERT ON THE BRAND FROM MANDELLO DEL LARIO, WITH A WORKSHOP IN BAVARIA, DEUTSCHLAND. AND OTHER FANTASTIC SPECIAL MG BIKES... AROUND THE WORLD.

September 2020 –  It was a truly special birthday gift that Claudia received from her husband, Harald Geppert, both German Guzzi enthusiasts. For Claudia Geppert there is only one name for motorcycles: Moto Guzzi; a love affair that blossomed first with the Nevada 750 and was then confirmed with the Breva 750, that she rode many miles for many years. Then she began to want a more powerful engine, for safer overtaking, a softer clutch and a wider rear wheel for better cornering... and maybe even ABS for safer braking. But one that would also be the “right” bike for ladies who aren't as tall as basketball players. The Eagle brand was ready with a response for a new “falling in love”: Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber 850. With 10% more power than the 750, with ABS and 70 Nm of torque from 3,000 rpm, traction control... it is perfect. But the thing that still didn't convince Claudia was a look that she deems too “Americanised” for her tastes.

For her husband, Harald Geppert, a 1994 Mechanic-Master graduate, former authorised Moto Guzzi dealership in Germany and then owner of the XS-Laden motorcycle workshop in Bavaria (repairs, upgrades and replacements based on the customers’ needs, customisations and special bikes), it was a motivating challenge: to “create” the right bike for his love.

And so, from the base Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber model, Harald modified everything: fuel tank, front wheel, fork, triple callipers, lights, turn signals, seats... everything was removed and all that was left was the frame, the engine and the rear wheel; everything else was replaced - where possible - with original Moto Guzzi parts. The V9 fuel tank was replaced with a V7 tank; the fork was shortened and given a tighter angle, the rear lowered with shock absorbers from YSS, a V7 front wheel, Moto Guzzi clutch and brake levers; the headlight is LED now, as are the small turn signals; a GIVI windscreen; the front fender, the rear light-holder and the licence plate bracket are from XS-Laden.

An extremely important aspect was the riding position: the new, Moto Guzzi two-tone saddle was lowered 5 cm and the position of the torso is now farther forward thanks to the LSL risers and the more open Spiegler handlebar (with heated Coolride grips). To finish the job, Harald added a touch of class: Swarovski crystals on the spark plug caps! A stroke of genius that makes a special motorcycle unique: the Moto Guzzi V9 Onyx, a black jewel, the result of Harald's creative flair and technical skills, completed in record time for his wife Claudia’s birthday! To whom we offer our best wishes for fantastic motorcycle tours.
