17 March 2018, Miami, Florida (United States) – Surprise at the “Best Buddies Friendship Walk”: there was Gita, the Piaggio Fast Forward cargo robot that accompanied the procession of members and friends of the international organisation that is committed to the inclusion of diversely able people.
Here is the tweet of the founder and president of Best Buddies International, Anthony K. Shiver taken by Piaggio Fast Forward: “Mobility solutions like Gita are yet another step in the right direction as we work to make the world an inclusive place for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities”.
In March, through a series of national events such as the walk in Miami and big international campaigns, the organisation celebrates "The Best Buddies Month", dedicated to raising awareness on the issues of inclusion and social promotion of people with disabilities, so that they can experience opportunities of joy and friendship, and engage in society through study and work.
The Best Buddies "walks" take place throughout the year in all States (involving schools, workplaces and communities), to raise funds and share emotions. Since 2009, over 1 and a half million citizens of all ages have taken part in 40 American cities.
Many famous people take part in the events by making donations, like many generous people, to support the American association – the largest in the world engaged in these issues that affect the lives of 200 million people – whose origins date back to the sixties. The logo – two friends hugging each other – was specifically designed 30 years ago by the famous pop artist Keith Haring and donated to the organisation.
