APRILIA CAPONORD FOR THE CARABINIERI

DELIVERY OF AN INITIAL FLEET OF 25 BIKES TO THE DIVISIONS IN MILAN AND TURIN. 1200 CC, WITH ABS AND MORE THAN 50 SPECIAL FEATURES

At the end of March, at the Hazon barracks in Rome, which house the General Headquarters of the Carabinieri, Italy's military police corps, the prototype was presented of the Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS with an institutional livery and equipped for the Carabinieri (the bike features special sound and light devices, radio support, special weapon carriers). The presentation was attended by the corps’ General Commander, General Tullio Del Sette, senior officers and delegates from the Cocer central council.

After successfully bidding in 2014 for the contract to supply 25 motorcycles, the Piaggio Group constructed the two-wheeler for the presentation, the result of a demanding project for the development of the bike’s special features. The prototype developed by Aprilia engineers at the company headquarters in Noale, in the Veneto, then underwent rigorous tests by Carabinieri experts and a series of technical adjustments.

The subsequent stage was the delivery, at the end of June, of the entire fleet of 25 Aprilia Caponord 1200 ABS motorcycles to the Carabinieri divisions in Milan and Turin. An additional 54 special bikes will be delivered by the end of the year.

The photos in this article (supplied by the Carabinieri) show the Aprilia Caponord motorbikes “on duty” in Milan, providing surveillance at Expo 2015. The Carabinieri motorcyclists – who go out in all weathers and on any roads – and will have the opportunity to appreciate the ridability, comfort, versatility and technology of the Aprilia Caponord.

The photo gallery below shows the prototype, which features more than 50 specific accessories. These include: LED headlamps built into the fairing; protective bag frames; siren/leg shield frames; special graphics; rear radio cover; reduced manual steering column; engine cover; dual sirens; integrated radio mike; special control panel for sirens and flashing lights; horn/siren switch.

The motorcycles also feature an electric system with a special battery for the LED lights, steering column, sirens and radio. The system can be turned on even if the engine is not running, to permit use of the radio, flashing lights and sirens.
