October 2024 (G.T.) – Art and Moto Guzzi, a pairing that is rooted in more than a century of history of the Mandello motorbike brand, loved by motorcyclists all over the world. The annual Moto Guzzi Open House and the Motoraduno Internazionale Città della Moto Guzzi events serve as confirmation of this: during every edition, the rich programme of events includes a host of artistic references, unveiling the works of contemporary artists inspired by Mandello motorbikes to the public.

During the various 2024 events, of particular note were the group exhibition featuring 14 artists entitled “Intrecci d'arte tra storia e cultura” (‘Art interweaving between history and culture’, ndr), successfully hosted by Square - Lake Como Art Center in Mandello del Lario (Italy), from 24 August to 16 September, with exceptional exposure of “La Guzzi di Ligabue”, in collaboration with the Casa Museo Antonio Ligabue in Gualtieri (Reggio Emilia region). The bike at the heart of the latter is the Moto Guzzi Sport 14 from 1930, which also served as muse for many of the works of the great and tormented expressionist painter, and was his companion in life.

Afterwards, the Square gallery also hosted another extremely popular exhibition: “Genius Loci - Spirito e Materia” (‘Genius Loci – Spirit and Matter, ndr), a solo exhibition by Nigel Joyce (who had already shown some works in the group exhibition) with a tribute by photographer Rosandro Cattaneo.

In addition, during the international rally in September, the exhibition of Ettore Gambioli's works - all featuring Moto Guzzi bikes - was widely celebrated, and was hosted in the multifunctional space of the Lido di Mandello. Below is the organisers' tribute to the artist:

The same Gambioli had already been the star of the exhibition “Passione Moto Guzzi - L'arte di Ettore Gambioli” (‘Moto Guzzi Passion – The art of Ettore Gambioli, ndr), at the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera in 2023:

ANTONELLA CICERI AND HER “UPSIDE-DOWN” ART: SHE ALSO PAINTS MOTO GUZZI BIKES FOR MOTORCYCLISTS. Artist Antonella Ciceri played the role of co-star at the collective exhibition at the Square gallery, enchanting the many visitors with her highly original “upside-down” works, featuring vintage Moto Guzzi bikes “submerged” in Lake Como accompanied by soaring or swooping eagles.

Artist Antonella Ciceri comments: “I meet many motorcyclists at exhibitions and rallies, and many of them say that they consider their Moto Guzzi bikes to be true ‘works of art’ - so much so that they want to display them in their living rooms. And indeed, some of them have even commissioned paintings starring their own Moto Guzzi bike in my ‘upside-down’ style, somewhere between a dream and a fairytale - to be displayed in their living rooms. How could I say no? Others wanted to give them to their Guzzisti friends as presents: these paintings truly are an original, unique, once-in-a-lifetime gift. My idea-proposal is to make readers of Wide Magazine aware of this possibility: I will be offering special conditions to Guzzisti who contact me to find out more about creating a work of art starring their own motorbike.”
The magnificent eagle flying over the Mandello landscape in the background of this article is also the work of Antonella Ciceri.
