EDOARDO COLOMBI, SECOND IN THE RACE, REGAINS THE LEAD IN THE SPORTBIKE CLASS AT DONINGTON PARK
30 September 2024 - Edoardo Colombi, champion of the Aprilia RS 660 Trophy (2023), displayed another solid performance in the Pirelli National SportBike class at the penultimate round of the 2024 British Superbike championship at Donington Park (Round 10, 27-29 September).
At a track where he took a double victory last May, Colombi reaffirmed his competitiveness by securing pole position in Saturday's qualifying session. In the race, the Italian rider fought for victory from start to finish, ultimately taking second place. As a sign of great maturity, Colombi chose to avoid unnecessary risks in order to secure crucial championship points. This strategic choice paid off as the podium finish made Colombi regain the lead in the SportBike standings with a 21.5 points advantage over his nearest rival.
This result highlights the exceptional competitiveness of the Italian duo, Colombi and the Aprilia RS 660, and once again proves that the Aprilia Trophy series are an excellent training ground for young riders, preparing them to compete at a high level.
The final round will take place at Brands Hatch (Round 11, 11-13 October), with a double race and 66 points still up for grabs. A decisive showdown that will determine the 2024 SportBike champion.
EDOARDO COLOMBI (#13): "Having secured pole position in qualifying, I knew I could maintain a consistent pace throughout the race, and indeed, I fought for the win from the first to the last lap. Seeing that my closest rival in the championship was out of the race, I avoided unnecessary risks and instead decided to take the points of the second place.
