MOTOGP 2024 – GP 9 GERMANY

COMPLICATED RACE FOR APRILIA RACING AT THE SACHSENRING

VIÑALES FINISHES TWELFTH; OLIVEIRA SIXTH AS THE BEST APRILIA AT THE FINISH LINE. NEXT GP: 2-4 AUGUST AT SILVERSTONE, UK

7 July 2024 - At the start, from the seventh spot on the grid, Maverick Viñales joined the leading group straight away, demonstrating a fast and consistent race pace. However, on the seventh lap, the Spaniard unfortunately went long on turn 8 while lying sixth, re-entering the track eighteenth. Despite this difficulty, Maverick was still able to come back and finish twelfth.

The points Maverick Viñales earned are still important, keeping Aprilia Racing in second place in the manufacturer standing with 175 points.

MAVERICK VIÑALES, #12: I braked on turn 8 and risked a high-side, so I went long, going off track. We looked at the data and we did not see any anomalies, I simply lost grip at the rear. It’s a real pity because I had an outstanding race pace. We need to try and set up the weekend better, because the bike changes a lot with respect to racing alone or in the group.”

MASSIMO RIVOLA (Aprilia Racing CEO): “After his bad crash in Q2, Maverick held tough and rode a race which became further complicated with his off-track excursion. He attempted a comeback, but the leading group was too far ahead at that point. It was great to see the Aprilia Trackhouse bikes competitive, although ambitions were inevitably higher starting from the front row. Now we’ll prepare as best as possible for Silverstone, a track that we love, and which has brought us great satisfaction in the past. We’ll return with Maverick and Aleix in the best shape, and with Miguel and Raúl, we’ll be aiming to have four Aprilias in the top ten.

Aleix Espargaró was on track for the first free practice session to assess his physical condition. Unfortunately, the Spaniard decided to stop after just two laps due to the pain in his right hand, fractured at the fifth metacarpal in the Assen sprint race. Espargaró will not take part in the Sachsenring GP.
Also worth a mention is the performance by Aprilia Trackhouse rider Miguel Oliveira, who finished the Practice session in third place, just three tenths of a second behind Maverick’s time.
