DIFFICULT SUNDAY FOR APRILIA RACING: MARCO BEZZECCHI AND LORENZO SAVADORI CRASH OUT IN THE LONG RACE AT SACHSENRING

IN SATURDAY’S SPRINT RACE THIRD CONSECUTIVE PODIUM FOR APRILIA RACING AND MARCO BEZZECCHI: SECOND PLACE FOR THE ITALIAN RIDER

Sachsenring, 13 July 2025 -After a positive Saturday – Bez on the podium, 2nd place in the Sprint Race - the Sachsenring Circuit Sunday proved to be a bitter one for Aprilia Racing. Marco Bezzecchi, who had a great start, crashed out during the twentieth lap on turn 1 while in a solid second place. Fortunately, the crash had no physical consequences for the Italian rider, but it stopped any chance of taking home another podium which would have been the cherry on top of a positive weekend.

Lorenzo Savadori’s race, on the other hand, was marred by two crashes. The Italian rider fell on the second lap but was able to rejoin the race. Subsequently, a second crash on turn 1 forced him to retire from the race. Savadori also received a double long-lap penalty for crashing during the yellow-flag.

‘A bad Sunday doesn’t take anything away from the great work we did at the Sachsenring. We’ll be back to shining soon! ’

MARCO BEZZECCHI, #72: “Unfortunately, I braked a bit too softly on turn 1 and didn’t oversteer the bike. There is a slight downhill in the middle of that turn and if you don’t go into it a bit off the rear, it pushes the front a little. And that’s exactly what happened to me. It’s a pity, because I was fast. To be honest, I didn’t expect to be so competitive on this track, but everything was going really well.

Now, with the crash fresh in my mind, things seem pretty dark, but we need to take all the positive aspects into account. We are growing and doing a great job and I’m happy with our growth, both as a rider and with the bike and the entire team which is working on it. We were ahead and that’s important. This is certainly a blow, but we are strong.”

LORENZO SAVADORI, #32: “It was a rather difficult weekend because the track was basically new to me and the constant weather changes certainly didn’t help. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake in the race, and I crashed.

I’m sorry and I apologize to the entire team and to Aprilia. In spite of everything, we are still satisfied and remain positive, because we tested some interesting upgrades and the bike is getting better and better.
MASSIMO RIVOLA, CEO APRILIA RACING: “It’s a real shame about Marco, who was riding an exemplary race. Unfortunately, he was a victim of turn 1, as we’re many other riders. It was a Sunday to forget in terms of results, but we can still take away the performance here, so are highly optimistic as we head to Brno. It’s a pity about Lorenzo as well, who had the same pace as the riders ahead of him.

12 JULY 2025 – THIRD CONSECUTIVE PODIUM FOR APRILIA RACING AND MARCO BEZZECCHI. SECOND PLACE FOR THE ITALIAN RIDER IN THE SACHSENRING SPRINT RACE.

The weekend at the Sachsenring Circuit proceeds on a positive trend for Aprilia Racing. Marco Bezzecchi rode an outstanding Q2 in wet conditions, taking the third spot on the grid – his first front-row start with Aprilia Racing. The sprint race was also held in the wet, and Bezzecchi moved into the lead straight away on the first turn, maintaining this position for almost the entire race with determination and control. He yielded the top spot only on the final lap, finishing with an excellent second place, which makes this his third consecutive podium finish – the second one in a sprint race after Assen.

Lorenzo Savadori continued the development programme of the RS-GP25 in race conditions, finishing the sprint race eighteenth.
MARCO BEZZECCHI, #72: “I’m happy! It was a great race. Towards the end, Márquez was coming back very strong and when I saw that he had moved into second place, I had to push to the limit in order to keep him from catching me.

Maybe I pushed a bit at the race start and overheated the rear tyre a little on the left side, because especially on T3, I had no grip and acceleration. In any case, I’m pleased. This morning, I saw that I was fast and, despite the complicated conditions, I managed to adapt well.

LORENZO SAVADORI, #32: “Congratulations to Marco! He had outstanding qualifiers and rode a great race. The bike is growing more and more, so we are satisfied. As I often say, however, it is never enough. You must always look for something more to improve. That is exactly what we are doing on my side with development, and I think that we will manage to bring other upgrades as well.

FABIANO STERLACCHINI, APRILIA RACING: It was a positive Saturday, partially dictated by the qualifiers. Starting out front is fundamental in the wet because it gives the rider better visibility and, therefore, the chance to be able to decide everything at the start. The work we did was also a determining factor to try and start well. Marco did extremely well throughout the race. Unfortunately, we struggle a bit in a split and that kept us from taking home the win. It’s a pity about Lorenzo who is always very good in these conditions, but we were unable to find a balance that would allow him to perform at his best, as we did in similar conditions like Le Mans.
