Misano Adriatico (Italy), 8 July 2018 –It was a hot humid Sunday in Misano, with the tarmac temperature reaching close to 50°C during the Superstock 1000 race. Maximilian Scheib got off to a splendid start from fifth position and took his Aprilia RSV4 FW-STK straight into second place. The Chilean rider held his position through all fifteen laps of the race, achieving an elasticity that, in some cases, enabled him to close up on the leader.

Thanks to an extremely fast race pace, Scheib ended the sixth round in second position and secured his fifth consecutive place on the podium with the RSV4, for the second position in the general scoreboard.

Luca Vitali had a defensive start, and lost a place during the first lap, which he successfully made up during the second lap. The Italian rider managed to maintain his pace and stay in ninth place through to the end of the race. At the close of the sixth round, Maximilian Scheib consolidates his second-place ranking just fourteen points behind the scoreboard leader, with another fifty points still to be allocated.

Luca Vitali is in sixth place, only eight points behind the fifth rider. In the manufacturers’ scoreboard, Aprilia remains in second position, with a strong lead over its followers. A long summer break now gives the competitors a chance to rest before returning with renewed vigour for the next Superstock 1000 race, scheduled for the weekend of 16 September in Portimao, Portugal.

MAXIMILIAN SCHEIB (bike no. 7): “I’m delighted. It was an uphill weekend with the Aprilia Racing Team having to work very hard to make sure I had the right feeling on my RSV4 FW-STK. I got off to a really strong start and went straight into second place. At a certain point, I tried to keep up with Reiterberger, but I realised that he had something extra.

We really went all out, this second place is almost as good as a win. We’re still fighting for the championship, anything could still happen. Once again my thanks to everyone in the team, we worked hard and it wasn’t easy, but we put everything we could into it.”

LUCA VITALI (bike no. 70): “I’m disappointed with the way things went this weekend. We couldn’t find the right set-up and I didn’t manage to feel at home on my Aprilia. It was a difficult race, ninth place in Misano is something to put behind us and immediately start thinking about doing better next time.”
