SUPERSTOCK 1000

THE APRILIA RACING TEAM TRIUMPHS AT BRNO: VICTORY OF MAXIMILIAN SCHEIB

FIRST WIN FOR THE CHILEAN IN THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP, AFTER THREE CONSECUTIVES PODIUM. TEAMMATE LUCA VITALI SIXT ACROSS THE LINE. NEXT ROUND: 8 JULY 2018, ON THE ITALIAN CIRCUIT OF MISANO.

Brno (Czech Republic), 10 June 2018 – Sunday at Brno had proved dry, with temperatures in the region of 30°C, up until a few minutes before the start of the Superstock 1000 race, when the wind unexpectedly brought in rain clouds, soaking the Automotodrom Brno. Previously established settings for the RSV4 FW-STK were therefore changed on the grid in light of the wet conditions. Right off the line, Maximilian Scheib got the better of the poleman, passing him to take an early lead and building a two-second advantage over his closest rival in the first lap alone. In the space of two laps, the Chilean rider had extended his lead to three seconds, allowing him to manage his race and retain his position without pushing too hard. Maximilian Scheib thus crossed the line first, to win his first Superstock 1000 race on board the Aprilia RSV4 FW-STK with a clear margin.

Luca Vitali got away well from fifth on the grid, quickly making up one position. The Italian was able to set a good pace which allowed him to close the race in sixth place.

At the end of round five, the 25 points earned for his win move Maximilian Scheib up to second place in the standings, just nine points from the current championship leader. Luca Vitali lies sixth, just six points from the top five. Today's fantastic performance projects Aprilia into second place in the manufacturers' standings. The next Superstock 1000 round will take place over the weekend of 8 July at the Italian circuit of Misano.

MAXIMILIAN SCHEIB (bike no. 7): “I'm the happiest person in the world because we ran the perfect race with the Aprilia RSV4 FW-STK. I was immediately able to break away and then I only needed to manage the gap, without taking any unnecessary risks. Before the race, I said that we knew rain would provide the ideal conditions in which to make up some championship points.

Thanks so much to the Aprilia Racing Team, the guys have done a great job, the bike was perfect, we would have been strong in the dry too but we knew we were the strongest of all in the wet. I was a little anxious and Pietro Caprara calmed me down before the race, the result is my first win in Superstock 1000 with Aprilia, a special victory for me and the whole team.”
LUCA VITALI (bike no. 70): “I could have run a great race in the dry but in the wet it was a little more difficult. I finished sixth, which isn't bad but I'm not happy because without the rain, we could have done better.”
