January 2023 (G.T.) – In Georgia, a fleet of 41 Piaggio MP3 500 Sport Advanced E5 units in “moto medic” version has been provided to the Georgian Ministry of Health. The vehicles, customised and fitted with sirens and flashing lights, are used by paramedics, equipped with first aid emergency kits for urgent response. The fleet was purchased through the Georgia trader – PITSTOP MOTO of Tbilisi – by the Georgian section of UNOPS (The United Nations Office for Project Services: www.unops.org). The Pitstop Motorcycle Academy will also be conducting technical and practical training for paramedics.

According to the short-term government strategy, the Paramedic course will cover other Regions of the country and annually 100 paramedics will be trained. The Emergency Department can reach 3500 calls in 24 hours. According to the Ministry of Heath, assistance from Paramedics is highly efficient. They have special skills and they act quickly.

Giorgi Modebaze is a Paramedic in Emergency service for 4 years. He passed the paramedics course and since then has completed 757 calls from which 58 people were hospitalized and now he rides Piaggio MP3 Life Support. Giorgi Chichua is Vice-Director of the Training centre. The Paramedics Training course lasts four months, of which 1.5 months comprise an intense theoretical course. The remaining 2.5 months comprise practical training Night shift on Emergency Car team, Adults Hospital emergency departments, and paediatric hospital emergency department.

Aleksander Kutibashvili is the Director of the Emergency Situation Coordination and urgent Assistance Centre. Paramedics who pass the course successfully will be employed for a minimum of three years in the emergency department.
