MOTOGP 2020 – PREVIEW GP 3 CZECH REPUBLIC

MOTOGP BACK ON THE TRACK AT BRNO IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

ALEIX ESPARGARO’AND BRADLEY SMITH ON THE NEW APRILIA RS-GP. RESULTS AND NEXT RACES ON APRILIA.COM. NEXT GRAND PRIX: AUGUST 16 AND 23 IN AUSTRIA.

Brno (Czech Republic), 5 August 2020 - The full 2020 MotoGP calendar has riders and teams back on the track just one week after the double race in Jerez de la Frontera, this time on the Brno circuit. The race in the Czech Republic will be the first Grand Prix of a triple-header. In fact, two races will then be held in quick succession in Austria, 16 and 23 August.

The Brno track is part of motorcycle racing history. It has hosted 51 Grand Prix races, second only to the TT of Assen which dominates in the virtual standings with 71 editions. Much has changed over the years from the original road circuit, which was almost 14 kilometres long, now downsized to 5.4 km, although still one of the most spectacular and demanding tracks on the calendar.

In the Aprilia camp, the goal is to continue improving the new RS-GP, a project which has shown great potential but needs to be refined. Aleix Espargaró left Andalusia without any satisfaction and is highly motivated for immediate redemption, whereas Bradley Smith (in the points in the two Jerez races) believes that the data collected in Spain could be the key to a good weekend in Brno.

ALEIX ESPARGARÒ (bike no. 41): "The two races in Jerez did not end the way we had expected. The advantage of the long break is that I'm fully charged with positive energy, so I can’t wait to get back on the track. I am confident in the potential of this new bike. The feeling is good, but we still haven't been able to put it all together. The situation at the start of the year obviously didn’t help us, but I will keep pushing anyway and I won’t leave any avenue unexplored."

BRADLEY SMITH (bike no. 38): "On paper, Brno seems not to be the best track for Aprilia, but with this new bike it’s hard to make any kind of prediction. We’ll find decidedly different conditions than Jerez. In any case, the experience gained in the first two races will certainly be helpful. The thing that the new RS-GP seems to be lacking the most is time on the track. We were unable to turn as many laps as we would have needed to because of COVID and that forces us to continue development during the races."
