May 2019 – For years, the Piaggio MP3 maxi scooters, specially equipped for emergency medical aid, have been part of the vehicle fleet of MDA (Magen David Adom, the Israeli Red Cross, Red Shield of David-RSD), which operates in Israel. The organisation’s Canadian arm, CMDAI (Canadian Magen David Adom for Israel), headquartered in Montreal with Chapters located throughout the country, last year launched a major fund-raising campaign, on its website – www.cmdai.org/en – and through charity events and shows to purchase new vehicles to send to Israel for MDA’s life-saving activities.

The campaign continues in 2019, both online and with new events. The Piaggio MP3 scooters, with their powerful 500cc engine and distinctive two front wheels providing greater stability and safety, come in a customised “emergency aid” version with a siren and flashing lights, plus medical equipment (life-saving devices such as a defibrillator and an oxygen tank). They are ridden by paramedics, who are able to move through traffic faster than with a normal ambulance, and provide pre-hospital first aid. They are the first people to arrive on the scene of an accident. Fully fitted, each scooter costs 35,000 Canadian dollars, says the CMDAI website.
