APE PROTO EVOLUTION SHOW
AT THE “ITALIA A ZANDVOORT” EVENT
IN THE NETHERLANDS
APE PROTO EVOLUTION SHOW AT THE “ITALIA A ZANDVOORT” EVENT
“Italia a Zandvoort” – automotive and lifestyle event – is the most important Italian motoring event in the Netherlands. As in previous years, the 2017 edition (the weekend of 24-25 June) was a great success. Over the two days, the Zandvoort racetrack was devoted to everything to do with Italian automotives, and more besides. A party for the whole family, in perfect Italian style. Vehicle displays on the racetrack alternated with entertainment in the paddocks. There were exhibits of the best automobiles from the most famous Italian brands, performances on the racetrack, as well as attractions centring on Italian fashion and food.
A special guest this year was the Ape Proto Evolution team from Italy's Emilia-Romagna region, whose displays on the racetrack with a feisty Ape three-wheeler fitted out in racing style won loud applause: with their stunning turns, jumps and burn-outs, the rider and stuntman galvanised attention, especially among the young spectators. Davide Stefani, a pluri-champion in Ape proto competitions, tells us about the weekend:“Our performance on the Zandvoort circuit was really exciting; me as the rider and my cousins Filippo Trebbi, stunt man, and Vanni Valentini, mechanic. It all began because the organisers of ITALIA a ZANDVOORT were in touch with an Italian cameraman who had shot videos at a number of events in Italy; they were very taken with our show and greatly admire the Piaggio brand and Italy, so our group – Ape Proto Evolution – caught their attention. We got straight down to work to organise our participation in the Dutch event, with the support of our friend Luca Motta.
We left from our base in Ca’ Romano (in the village of Pennabilli, near Rimini) and set off for Zandvoort, in northern Holland, at 2:45 on Thursday 22 June, all ready to face the 1,500 km trip. We arrived on the Friday evening at 19:30 and our first stop was at the racetrack to introduce ourselves and get our passes for the event. On Saturday morning, super-excited, we were back at the circuit ready to do our two shows for the day. The public and the organisers were very pleased, and that wasn’t the end of it: on the Sunday we were back for three more displays, one in the morning and two in the afternoon. During the second show, the organisers organised a rally as a tribute to Piaggio, with a parade of new and vintage Vespa scooters ridden by Dutch Vesparados doing a lap of the circuit. A wonderful sight, which attracted great interest. At the end of the day, happy with our performance, we loaded up our Ape Proto Piaggio and set off the next morning at 3:45 to return to Italy.”
